ashford town v chertsey

Recommended Posts

I just think it's all pointless to be perfectly honest and probably a waste of time and money. I'm sure i read on the Ashford website the other week that the manager had accepted the 2 players were both leaving and that was that, but now this.

Surely the only way that Chertsey would be charged is if the 2nd player to sign owned up and said "yes my current club tapped me up", do me a favour!

To me there just seems a lot of resentment to them. At the end of the season the best TEAM will be promoted and that's that.

El Gaffer..Agree with above comments. Ashford have said that they have accepted it but are not happy with the manner in which it happened and have reported them and thats as far as they will take it. It is now in the hands of the FA. Lots of rules and regulations, too many for me to understand, but your last sentence of your post is spot on mate.

I was told by somebody with links to Chetrtski at the weekend that the second Bamford had approached them and not the other way round so Ashford will have no case unless they can prove otherwise.

Meanwhile after the weekend results are we to wonder whether that piece of business was a waste of money?

Every club has been guilty at one point or another or making approaches illegally. Its just making sure no one finds out about it. Im not suggesting here that Chertsey illegally approached Bamford II before anyone jumps on that.

It has happenned to me before. One club called me to make sure it was worth putting a 7-day approach in for me before actually doing it.

EL Gaffer..

I think It's done now, so, as you so rightly say lets all get on with it. They, Chertsey sit 9th having won 1 point out of 6 since these guys were bought in, so let him spend his money on whoever, but in the correct manner of approach in the future.

I would make a couple of points here:

1) It is irrelevant whether Stuart Bamford approached Chertsey or vice versa. FA Rule E3 covers this in the same way as it does approaches by clubs to players - Chertsey are still not allowed to do anything until the 28 days are up.

2) This is actually the SECOND time this season Chertsey have signed two players from Ashford without going through the proper procedures. On the previous occurence, my understanding is that Ashford allowed the players concerned to leave and agreed to take no action on condition that the situation did not arise again, which it clearly has.

Ashford Town have referred the matter to the CCL and Surrey FA and as far as the club is concerned that is the end of the matter.

On a personal note I would add this: Chris Gay at Chertsey has been the Secretary a long time and knows the rules. I know that he has been quick enough to point the finger at clubs like Egham in the past so I say this: "let he who is without sin cast the first stone"...
