Nice performance from them, but still feel that last years u18s had more potential, but only Harrison came of anything. Can anyone see any of this lot becoming 1st teamers within a couple of seasons? Anyone going along to see their county cup match (against Brentwood possibly?) on Sunday?

More potential...possibly.
We'll never know, opportunities to tread the progression path were few and far between last season.
This years set-up has already seen some of the youngsters being given every opportunity.
Adam has named a few, Jack & Sam West are anther two promising lads, joe Stevens has made an impression and Matt Haigh was called up last week.

It's exciting times for our youngsters at the moment.

Just to let you know Miyagi, last years U18's was run basically by the colts and there was no structure for the lads to really come through, the old structure hindered the lads future potential at this club, this year however the U18's, capital league & 1st team have really strong connections through the current management system, there are lots of potential 1st team players IMO in this youth side, where as last year there were 1 or 2, if you come and watch some of the capital league games you will see plenty of them in action

Still getting used to this Forum, so hope I'm replying to the right question/in sequence!! - if you look up the Web for the Junior Eastern Alliance League South U/18's you may find the fixtures on there (although they are not always accurate/bang up-to-date)with an ever-changing weather pattern in the UK! but it will give you an idea. If I'm on line any time I can keep you posted!

Best regards,

Steve

Very much agree with you about the change in structure of the club now, it's a much more organsied and professional approach to youth development. Last year's U18s had a brillaint coach in Martin Godbold, always wanted to see the game played the way it should be. And after getting to the County Cup final always felt at least 5, if not 7, of the players could have prgressed easily to reserve action, and then simply onto first team action, but not much happened.

What has changed with the U18 side is pretty much everything, manager and coach were changed, and after speaking to them they did not want to go, and therefore through loyalty to them, all but 2 of last year's U18s players left as well. Only Harrison and a defender (Jack Edwards might be his name, appeared in early capital league games) have remained. I always felt their skipper, and coach's son, Lewis Godbold, could easily make the transition from youth to reserve team, as well as the ginger centre back (Newell??), the keeper Alfie, tall forward Treadwell, centre back Josh Steele and the striker Matt/Max Corrigan. And then of course Harrison. And then the U16s team looked a good side as well, many of them coming into the current U18s side. Luca only joined the U18s this season, and trying to remember last seasons games I saw, probably wouldn't make the starting XI week in week out.

Bit of a long post I know, but i was disappointed and shocked to hear that Graham Jury and Martin Godbold had been asked to step down after last years success of reaching the final. They had created a very good team spirit I've heard, going on holidays and 'tours' together at the end of the season for the last 4 seasons. As a non-league club we should be looking to keep hold of our best youth players and develop them.

But best of luck to the lads and hope they progress well though, good to have some youth coming through with potential!

Thats a good point, but answer this, players should be loyal? who to? club or coach?

in my opinion it seems the 2 coaches that were in charge last year talked the players in to leaving Billericay. I think by the sounds of it you must have some point to make cos its not that clear in these last 2 posts what your message is here, are you trying to say that the U18's this year are rubbish????.

whats your point????

After watching the 18's for both years i think we have a much stronger squad this year!!!

i think this years structure is a lot better than last year as it gives more people an opportunity. as a lot of under 18 players are now progressing into the capital league side which is taken my Jason Broom, which then lets them make an impression on him and maybe be used in the 1st team if needed. Players such as dean etchell, frankis, chatting, and both Jack & Sam West have all been very impressive in capital league games this season and have now had interaction with the 1st team squad which is very good and it gives other players a goal to achieve unlike last year where i very much doubt Jason & GRant even knew any of the under 18's or reserve team players names never mind if they are worth a shout for the 1st team.

Under 18's and capital league sides this year are looking very strong indeed and long may it continue and also see more and more progress into the 1st team.
