Just to spark a healthy debate...

Many will probably criticise this thread because it is not positive for the club blah blah blah, but it is only, as the title suggests, to provide a bit of debate...

Have we really moved forward since the departure of Ashby and Smith?

Following recent enlightening statistics of our season so far (for those who do not know: under Ashby, 13 games, 12 points; under Yorath 13 games, 10 points, I believe?), the question is certainly one to consider. Personally, I don't think we've moved forward since the sacking of Ashby. Granted, many seem to comment on our nice football and the number of chances we are creating of late but, ultimately, it is results that count and we just aren't getting them.

We didn't play superb free-flowing football under Ashby but I felt that BA knew we didn't have the quality in our squad so he focused on trying to make it difficult for the opposition. He packed the midfield with often three tough-tacklers (Smith, Morris, Stubbs for example) and tried to suffocate the opposition. Despite a couple of hammerings (Worthing away being particularly hard to take), we were, on the whole, much more difficult to pick apart under BA. Currently, we seem to be easy to play against and teams can often work out our weaknesses.

Any other views....?

i dont see much to suggest that we've moved forward, but i dont we've moved backward either. its more like we're stuck, not moving annywhere...

my one criticism of Yorath at the moment is that he only ever has Stubbs as a sub, when he is clearly one of our better players. he always manages to create oppurtunities for himself and others and he plays well alongside Wilson... i would start him if i was manager, as Ashby did...

but other than that, i don't see much difference between us now than in september...

but then what do i know, ive only seen 3 matches this season because i'm a gazillion miles away...

Have to say (again) when Smith played for us, he controlled the game with his experience/footballing knowledge, when he was subbed we fell apart. What Im trying to say is we need at least 2 experienced players who will calm/control the lads to enable US to play the way we can as a team. At the moment all the lads seem to play at 100 mph and dont achieve much from it.

Cant fault the boys for their play at all recently (apart from the Ramsgate game) as they always look like they are the better team, until they get in front of goal.

This is the business side of the season. The next few months will decide our fate. Signing one experienced player in each position may be the difference between survival and relegation.

As only a handful of players (3 or 4 I think) are on contracts it's presumably those ones that are proving hard to get rid of - probably because clubs that might be interested wouldn't match the wages we're rumoured to be paying. Also a bit tricky as if the players concerned aren't actually playing they're not exactly in the shop window. I'd guess it's a case of waiting till the contracts run out at the end of the season. Agree with the earlier mention about Stubbs - don't understand why he's not playing but then I also don't understand how various strikers with no goalscoring pedigree whatsoever keep playing instead of Mo. He's no world beater but he has scored at least some goals at our level and has the best goals to games ratio of any of our strikers this year - not much of an achievement I know. Hasn't really been mentioned elsewhere but from what I've seen Neville Southall gives the impression that he's the one calling the shots, on match days at least.

I was very sceptical of Yoraths appointment; and i felt BA was getting it right.

Medium term, i think upon reflection Yorath is the better bet,if he can keep us up-now looking very doubtful.

It was beginning to look better under Ashby because as DM posts-we had become quite difficult to beat by packing midfield and organising the defence.

TY seems to like flowing football-which is great, but i just want winning football-grinding out points.

Under TY we are playing 7/8 forwards every game, and not scoring.

I've consistently said, its another good central midfield player we need-not a striker.

Stop the goals being conceded-breeds confidence in the whole of the team-and the forwards start to find their touch because they have confidence in the rest of the team.

we are almost back to the trott days of knowing we will let in 2/3 goals so we have to score 3/4.

Again-Ashby or Yorath-jury is still out.As the incumbent,TY has total support- and again, medium term he probably is the best bet-if he can keep us up.

The squad is undoubtedly better now-but results are'nt.Its a bit late to tinker, which is again why the contoinuity of Ashby would have been better imo

would we have got more points with Ashby in charge-frankly-i think we would have got 3/4 more as we would have ground out a few results.I have to add, that Ashby benefitted from Butcher being in goal-that was our best spell-and look what a difference it made to the side (and fans) when everyone had confidence in the goalkeeper.

We seemed to have more passion and definately seemed to be making some progress under Ashby and Smith. If they didn't have integrity and minds of their own they would still be here but they are their own men and respect to them for this. Just the type of people this club needs. Yorath has done nothing except experiment with loads of different players and mostly getting it wrong. Can't help feeling he is Pipers puppet and I still believe the people running the club do not have the clubs football interests at heart. It's a means to an end for the so called development ha f()cking ha and they are all only on board for the greenback dollar. We did seem to be making progress under Ashby and that certainly wouldn't do would it? The demise of this club has been contrived. I f()cking love a healthy debate-now do your worst do gooding rose coloured spectacle brigade. The truth hurts as we plummet to non league obscurity.

Agree with most of that WB,I have been saying for along time that this so called development takes first place and the success of the team and league status comes 2nd.I cannot see anything wrong with having TY in charge,he can only play with what the board give him and that goes back to the first part of this post.

I don't really want to get involved in the debate about which management group is the better - as far as I am concerned who is there is there and we need to support them (I'm not one of the rose tinted brigade).

I am not really sure about this green back dollar business though. How on earth any one is going to make money to support a football club, in any way, from the medical centre and five a side pitches beats me. I guess if a hotel or casino or something of a similar nature was there we might have a better chance.

Why not put up a big amusement park, cinemas, function rooms, theatre, sideshows etc, call it Dreamland and then try to entice visitors to the town?

I don't see, or hear of, people falling over themselves to throw money at it. Perhaps I am wrong but I thought that the original idea was to have a much bigger complex, hotel or whatever, but the Medical centre and 5 a sides is what we now have.

I would have thought that if there was a lot of profit to be made out of that then there would have been a queue of people throwing money at it.

The five a sides are for fun and the Medical Centre, arguably both, are for the community's health surely?

What do you think of the Dreamland idea anyway?
