Cirencester Town v Slough Town

The wind had a major factor in the game. They had it first half, we had it second. Still that'sno excuse for a pretty pathetic first-half showing.

Opening 25 minutes of the half we bossed it, and could have been level, but you would have expected us to have bossed the second-half with the huge wind factor.

Again we play a 5-2-3 formation. I've still yet to see this formation started with in a game by any other team apart from ourselves. Very disappointing.

So playing against the wind was a big advantage?

So Sweetman's still trying to play the wing-back system which I don't think has really worked all season.

Another poor performance today. We lost the match in the first ten minutes by going 2-0 down. Only 2 attacks by us in the first half hour, though we improved after that, but still conceded 2 goals.

No midfield and no width until it was too late. Endless long throws that reached no one.

By this time last season we had won 6 league matches, so far this season we have won 5. Thankfully we have drawn a few more games but we are still a poor side, and that is not good enough.

This bizarre 5-2-3 formation has not worked and I cannot see it working. If Derek Sweetman cannot see this by now, he needs to leave and try it elsewhere before we get dragged down into a relegation dogfight. We're a struggling side and need solidity, hence drop the stupid wingback system (Fenton and Makh are not natural wingbacks) and revert to a tried and tested 4-4-2. Please!

The game was lost early on, just like against Didcot, and although we were a bit unlucky second half (Jordan hit the bar, Brown should have had a penalty and his disallowed goal did not look offside), it was another really poor showing overall.

Five wins in 22 league games is quite poor given that we have a better squad than last season, and it's difficult to see where the next win is coming from.

I've only just got home, and i can honestly say it's the first time i've been really pissed off this season (which might say more about my state of mind). Just what is it with Slough? The first half was truely dreadful, yet the second could easily have been 2-2 - a disallowed goal then hitting the post twice. Grandad was right, that also the coldest ground ever. Didn't find the vegie burgers either.

Totally agree with all that's been said - the formation doesn't work. the midfield was a shambles today, and that's not because anyone performed particularly poorly, it's just there was only ever 2 people in it at any one time!

I don't understand why, in a game that we know is likely to be tough, we don't play a "safe" flat back four, especially given we're without 2 of our strongest defensive players.

Second half performance was a marked improvement from the first, but why oh why was Yash substituted? I don't have anything against Bubb, but why would you bring off one of the three players who actually looked effective? (The other two being, IMHO, Platt and Fenton).

Aside from anything else, that performance has made me decide not to travel to Truro.

Well I am pleased to read that there are no optimistic write ups this week.

I was a bit surprised to read that Slough was playing 5-2-3 in the first half nobody could have told Smith and Makh(who by the way was one of the few who never stopped trying)further more did anyone hear the laughter around the ground when Scott Webb who was one of the smallest players on the park started off as a CENTRE BACK-though he did looke a bit better at right back in the second half. And you all keep saying Sweetman knows what he's doing !!

As above I thought the midfield was hopeless today, both in being over run and very poor in distribution.

Can anyone tell me why Platt who is one of our taller forwards kept on taking the corners when we were losing, made no sense at all, add to that Jordan kept coming into midfield to get the ball and you can see why the attack was threadbare. Also have to agree with Charlie above that Romeo looked our biggest threat.

I did warn on here last week that the new look Cirencester were much fitter and faster than when we met them before-I also pointed out that their no7 and 8 were handfuls, but nobody man marked them or picked them up for most of the game.

And you say Sweetman knows what he's doing-sorry I don't think so!

On a different topic it says in the Cirencester prog.that Steve Roberts played for Slough-does anyone out there know when and who against please?

Early goal always a bit of a shock to come back from but I did notice that when Romeo twice got wide early on for passes into the box - he had a great tussle with our young left back all match and I must admit I was relieved when he was taken off - each time his cross was on the deck, roaring in and begging to be met. But both times Jordan and Platt were inexplicably on their heels and not moving to meet them.

I thought Webb worked out our 10, Griffin, early on in the first half and we lost momentum when he bossed him. Again, relieved to see him moved and while 2 (Smith) worked his buns off he was not as mobile and the two late goals found him out of position.

Non-League Paper invented the first para of my report. It was disrepectful IMHO. They cut the first sentences of para four which read, in my text, "Second half, with both the wind and an admirable away following behind them, Slough came roaring back. For much of the opening 20 minutes they pinned Ciren in their own half as the Ciren midfield scrambled to get hold of the ball."

Fair play to the at least 50+ Rebels who turned up to the Windy Corinium. Best away support here since we were in the Prem.

I wasn't there yesterday, but I would like an explanation as to why Romeo is always taken off when he seems to be our biggest threat.

Having checked their forum they say we are disjointed as a team and site poor management. Guess that says it all really.

Not really. It is all about opinions. The Ciren defence were very, very determined, and for sure had some luck in those scrums. The key was the substitutions - gave control back to Ciren. Scott Griffin came alive after being contained for twenty minutes second half and Matt Williams who replaced him scored our pair at Holloways Park in September and is always deadly if he gets an opening. Tactically, our manager took a risk when he asked our 8 to press on Webb, who had been a sparky and accurate outlet for Romeo and that final 20 minutes lung bursting effort from him was not spectacular but did a heck of a lot to get us the clinching goals at the end.

I said last week about how little progress had been made since last season even though some of you quoted me as saying no progress had been made! Anyway 5 wins in 22 games says it all another heavy defeat a manager who has not got a clue about any kind of formation, god only knows where the win will come from cant see us doing anything against North Leigh. If Sweetman goes now we might rescue the season if he stays then we will sink into the bottom 4, and for Brighton Rebel to be this angry says it all.

Att: 176 Above our average for the season and for that we can thank the admirable away support for Slough. One of the Rebels fans told me they had brought near on 100. Not quite though without doubt their 50+ fans were by far the best away attendance this season. Some very pointed criticism of their team on their message board but I think they are being over critical
