Thoughts on Sutton Game

When I text Alan that we should have been 4-0 up at half time this was no blue tinted remark. We had 4 excellent chances that SHOULD have all been put away. OK Nicholls made a good save but the others should have given him no chance.

I thought the MOM last night was Corbs playing out of position on the left he really gave the Sutton right back a lot of problems & was very unluck in he 2nd half with his shot that hit the post.

I know it is easy to blame the ref but the one last night was DIRE. Booking players for no reason at all (from both sides) and then when a blatant Mexican greeting (El-Bow) is done in front of him he just produces the yellow card. When I made my way round to offer him the benefit of my opinion towards the end of the second half even the Sutton fans said he was shocking. He added 4 minutes on as extra time in the 2nd half but ended up playing 8 minutes 37 seconds.

And copied and pasted from their forum.

I think Margate should take a lot of heart from this game.

We could easily have been three down at one stage.

Harwood was unbelievable. He won everything. That is a quality loan signing, bit like Downer, who we missed big time tonight.

As for a Margate fan calling the ref a 'Nazi' - isn't that a Prince Harry moment?

However, I have to agree that the ref was awful for both sides. How it warranted 7-8 bookings is beyond me.

And another one.

Harwood was man of the match tonight until the 89th minute until his stupidity (or maybe gambling instincts as Dundas was rampaging through?) brought a second yellow card from a referee who will be unnecessarily busy for the next few hours filling in his report forms.

Oh well, we'll take that. We've had our fair share of poor results over recent seasons when we've outplayed opposition so perhaps there's a bit of karma going on! Margate certainly didn't look like a bottom-two team though.

And before a Ramsgate fan copies and pastes the one which says the game was rubbish, IMO he was talking about his own team's performance, reading all the other posts.

Totally agree with Joseba,s comments about the game, a game

where Margate dominated and out played Sutton for long periods

but could not do that most vital thing, score a goal.

So what happens now? are the players losing confidence in

their struggle to survive?,Do they realise how important it

is to stay up? and what the supporters think?,Im sure some do but not all.

Come on you Margate players ask yourselves the question are

you really good enough to do this?.

The answer is quite clear, sadly they are not good enough. Hand on heart and a supporter for 50 years this year this is just a step too far for these lads. Sutton were dire in the first half, abysmal in fact. They had not played since Xmas and it showed and we should have put them to bed before 8 o'clock. No quality attacker all season. After that it was no surprize to conceed the way we did. Unfortunately two of the big three positions are POOR ie. goalie, centre forward. Two very good centrel midfielders cannot compensate for those two inadaqueces.

Four guilt edged chances and what did we get. Audacious flicks and lobs when a good old fashioned Phil Collins thump was needed and two complete freezes ie. oh i might score panic , panic.

Shame as we played them off the park. Lovely ground, good support and a nice mild evening. Bad last two mins. Worst things happen a t sea!!!!!

Its a shame because I thought we played some great flowing football last night but we just don't have that killer instinct at the front. We were crying out for someone to just strike the ball last night. As said earlier, twice we went for the fancy flick or lob rather than trying to at least get it round the keeper.

Agree Steve. We need to be more ruthless in front of goal & shoot on sight.Whenever in the position to let fly they should do so.As you say, there always has to be that extra touch, extra mini pass, passing the responsibility over to others.

In a recent game it took a while but Stubbs showed what can be achieved by "having a go". What a cracker that was.

Are they afraid of not getting it on target & looking like idiots.Yes,maybe that's the reason for them not shooting on sight so often.Hey,they shouldn't think that & it shouldn't be a reason for them not taking speculative shots at goal.

I for one will always appreciate a crack at goal from any distance rather than them being shot shy altogether.

We have at least two excellent strikers of the ball in Stubbs & Wilson. They should be using those strengths more often. Both have scored some screamers this season by doing just that, giving it a crack, but recently they have ceased to do that.

Playing football with slick passing is great & looks good but without that final effort it is all wasted. We are not getting points on the board despite all the good approach work.At this moment in time its not enough.

We all know not every shot will hit the target.BUT one or two WILL.

It's time now the players got more selfish & took on the responsibility themselves if & when they get the opening.

I also see a lot of one-on-ones with the keeper seem to failing too.Maybe a little more work on this in training might help.A little more know-how please would be helpful.

The players deserve something for the way they have performed of late & if they can get their shooting boots on they WILL reap the rewards,I'm sure of it.

As Clive says its the result at the end of the day that counts.

We have to start winning points right now.No more "Oh we were unlucky,we were robbed,we were all over them, but".

Its time now the players got tough & went for goal at every sighting, every opportunity, even if its only a half-chance.

Why o Why haven't you ever been appointed as manager of Margate Cookie you seem to have all the answers. Actually why was you overlooked for the England job when we had a vacancy.

You make it sound so easy I sure the players would respond to you coaching and management knowledge. I really think Margate have employed the wrong team . Im sure you as Manager and Joseba as coach with both you superior abilities we would be back in the conference within 2 years.
