Respect

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to say that I am fed up with what I consider to be a pointless parade at the start of the match.

Anyone else feel the same?

I believe that it would serve a better purpose if all the players (sent off or not) who took part in the game each time shook hands after the match. Perhaps the home side should line up and shake hands with the away side as they leave the pitch.

Then we would see respect.

100% agreement again. Not sure how we feed this in to Ryman, FA etc (hope someone reads these threads) but that would send the right signal to players and supporters. It may also focus officials' minds on sensible application of cards, because they should be involved in the handshaking as well! I wasn't there last night, but certainly at home I've seen at least three games this season that have been spoiled by 'over-enthusiastic' refereeing. Niggling whistle and card-happy refereeing stops the flow of a game and enhances the chance of players getting at each other, frustrates the crowd, and just causes more bad-tempered exchanges. Anyway, slightly off the original post, but that's what I feel!

Good idea to make the officials shake hands as well and I agree with Geoff Pay.

I think the whole thing as it stands, though, is pointless unless those who are doing the handshaking take it absolutely seriously.

Respect isn't just a handshake - it has to be earned.
