Off Topic - Uxbridge

In their FA Trophy game against Swindon Supermarine tonight, Uxbridge were reduced to 8 men before half time and also had manager Tony Choules sent to the stands!

They ended up losing 1-6 and it will come as no surprise that Mark Nicholls was the first to go...

I never understand these teams non leaue or Premier league, because I thought there was a rule that if you went under a certain number of players left on the pitch per team then the game would be abandoned( I think its 7) so why don't the team with 8 men get some more sent off-especially if its an important game that would be replayed latter.

You may think that's unsporting but Alec Ferguson gets away with murder why dont a few others try it.

Neil Warnock DID do that at Sheffield United a few years in a game against West Brom (I think). They were already four men down through injuries and dismissals when he claimed that another player was so injured he couldn't continue. Ref had no alternative but to adandon the game. IIRC the opposition were 2 or 3 goals ahead at the time and the FA let the result stand.

I remember that one! If a side is reduced to six players then the game is abandoned and under FIFA rules, I thought a default 3-0 win was awarded to the other team (unless of course they were already winning anyway, which is likely).

Uxbridge will probably get a massive fine for three reds in one game. I know at least one of them was for a second bookable offence, but even so, they won't get off lightly.

Here's the rule...

Although a match may not START if either team consists of fewer than seven players, the minimum number of players in a team required for a match to CONTINUE is left to the discretion of member associations. However, it is the opinion of the International F.A. Board that a match should not continue if there are fewer than seven players in either team.

If a team has fewer than seven players because one or more players has deliberately left the fi eld of play, the referee is not obliged to stop the match and the advantage may be played. In such cases, the referee must not allow the match to resume after the ball has gone out of play if a team does not have the minimum number of seven players.

Not sure if your being serious or sarcastic but would be interested to know why you think so.

Did go to the match on tuesday, saw a few other rebels there too. Uxbridge behaved appalingly, the number of two feet in tackles was a disgrace, someone could have got really hurt. Glad to see at last a referee having the [****!!****] to deal with mark 'i used to play for chelsea when i was ten' Nichols. the place has a bad atmosphere the last time i went into the bar i had the impression that a fight could break out any time. Hopefully the fa will deal with them severly and uxbridge ofload choules, nichols as soon as possible.seeing the management throwing punches at the swindon players at half time was dreadful. So glad we have sweets, can you imagine him behaving in that manner.football is surely also about other things apart from winning all the time.

Definatly being sarcastic.

We had a pre season friendly there a few seasons back, which was abandoned at half time after some extreme GBH took place on our players. Stamping on one of our players head.

This then continued after the abandonment, when they started to verbally attacked one of our Disabled supporters (my mum), who ended the day in tears. Roy had to step in to stop it.

Sorry to hear that HR, the thing that got me was their report on the game on their website said this

'No complaints though, the better and more disciplined side won'

We (Ciren) played Uxbridge t'other week. Quite amazing behaviour on the pitch but have to say their fans and committee were (a) very apologetic for the antics and (B) the usual cheerful bunch you get in any non-league club. Very amusing afterwards.

The veggie option is sorted - probably only available in the bar, to avoid having to use the burger grill in the hut spreading it's taint ...

I always find when I go to Uxbridge we never have any problems with the committee and those hard working voulenteers, its a shame that the players dont have the same regards ..this is not an isolated incident and Uxbridge are getting a very poor reputation ..they need to sort it and this is best done from within the club , and maybe its the time for big changes ...and some life time bans on the players that seam to act in this non acceptable manner....

Surprised at the comment over the atmosphere in the clubhouse - we went in for a half-time cuppa and it was all very friendly. In fact, the Uxbridge fans were commenting on the disgraceful behaviour of their own players and manager - who wrestled with the steward who tried to get him off the playing area, and then appeared to attack the Supermarine goalkeeper as he left the pitch at halftime!

All started as usual by Nichols - he was fouled on 5 mins, extracted intial retribution three mintes later (yellow card) then a straight red for an elbow on 25mins. Thought the second Uxbridge red was harsh (Supermarine fans agreed) as both payers went in dangerously yet referee gave only the Uxbridge red (should have been two yellows or two reds). Number nine went for two yellows - the first for a two footed studs-up challenge which could have been a red, the second for apparently calling the officials cheats.

Some concern when Supermarine went 6 up with 15+ minutes to go - our record Trophy win (10-1 at Stroud?) could have been in jeopardy. Fortunately, Supermarine tried (and kept failing) to walk the ball into the net, and the Uxbridge keeper, who had been at fault for two of the first half goals, pulled off a series of fine saves. Biggest cheer of the night came 5 minutes from time though, when the 8 men of Uxbridge pulled a goal back.

An entertaining game!

Rgds, Mike

sorry didnt make it clear the last time i went in the bar was some years ago, havent been in since,it must have improved.

Its good that the fans arent happy and have voiced their concern but it is another to actually do something about it. Can you imagine if we had a character like that as manager of STFC have to say i think we as fans would be doing more than just talking in the bar.
