SAVE OUR COUNTRY

We will fight for YOUR right to vote for Britain

WITH scarcely a word of debate, the biggest change to our way of life since the Normans landed in 1066 is planned.

The European Constitution, drawn up by a former French President with the full support of Tony Blair, will

DESTROY our democracy;

LOSE US our liberty; and

SACRIFICE our sovereignty.

It is nothing short of a surrender of everything this country stands for and which it has fought for centuries to protect and enjoy.

Britain would lose the identity which makes it stand apart from Europe and, indeed, the rest of the world.

Westminster — hailed the world over as “the Mother of Parliaments” would no longer pass laws in the name of the people.

It would become a meaningless, neutered talking shop.

What would be the point of voting in General Elections for MPs who were powerless to act in the national interest?

Under the proposed European constitution, one all-powerful body would impose the law upon every country of Europe — the EU in Brussels.

Those who oppose joining the single currency because they fear it would put us on a slippery slope, had better wake up quick to what Europe is planning today — and what the Prime Minister wants to go along with.

Our Government would not be able to set tax or mortgage rates. Nor could it determine public spending or borrowing.

How that would make them rub their hands with glee in Paris and Berlin, where the French and German regimes see our present financial independence as a powerful economic weapon with which they cannot compete.

Our freedom to succeed riles them.

They want nothing more than to drag us down to their level of inflexibility, lack of enterprise and dead-handed State corporatism.

And by taking away our right to say No, they would push our taxes up to their high levels.

Britain, the nation which has many times saved Europe from wars of tyranny, would be like a dog with no teeth.

It could bark but could not bite.

No longer would we have a permanent voice on the United Nations Security Council — where for half a century we have rightly dominated an organisation that has despite our efforts become corrupt and self-serving.

Our place at the UN top table would be taken by a representative of the United States of Europe.

Bitter experience with the double-dealing of France and Germany before the Iraq war should have taught us the perils that will lie ahead.

The speed of this far-reaching attack on all that makes Britain great is astounding. Blair has already given his broad support for the European constitution in a speech last November.

Next month, European ministers will debate the blueprint. Then, after just six months for the details to sink in, the European elite want to make it law.

All previous treaties will be torn up and a new order created.

Incredibly, Blair believes he can allow all this to happen without asking the people whether they approve.

He won’t get away with it. Sun readers will make sure of that.

We vow to fight, fight and fight again for Britain’s future as an independent nation.

The Sun’s opinion poll shows, unsurprisingly given the Government’s stealthy approach to this massive upheaval, a huge lack of knowledge about what is being planned.

People want to hear all sides of the argument. But most importantly, they demand a say in their futures.

An astonishing 84 per cent want a referendum.

The question Blair must answer — but cannot answer — is this:

If France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Ireland, Austria, Holland and Denmark can vote, why can’t we?

Downing Street says feebly that national votes are only taken on issues which change the system of government.

It’s hard to imagine a more fundamental change than this.

We would be a small province of a new superstate — the United States of Europe, headed by a President unelected by voters and with an EU Minister for Foreign Affairs deciding how we would be allowed to deal with the world.

We would lose our right to decide our own policies on asylum, immigration, trade, competition, employment, justice, home affairs, foreign policy, energy, transport...the list goes on.

We wouldn’t be able to fight a Falklands or Iraq war without the approval of 24 other countries, some of them pipsqueaks on the world stage.

This Government has held 34 referenda in the past six years, including one on whether a monkey should be mayor of Hartlepool.

To refuse us a free, fair and binding vote on the future of our nation would be a cynical denial of our democratic rights.

Magic stuff CZ and bang on

Many of the old style MPs could be trusted but the entire crop of Blair nodding dogs are "on message" and lack any commitment to the party or the country being in place only to serve the Blair need for self

Give us our country back
