Brian Goymer - dead

I note in non-league today that Brian Goymer has died aged 69. It lists his previous clubs as Wealdstone and Barnet.

 

I recall Brian as an able goalkeeper and I may have a fales memory that he also played for Enfield. Perhaps he played so often against us at Wealdstone and Barnet the my recollection of him playing for Enfield is incorrect.

 

I am sure FJ will correct me.

Definitely did sir. Debut 13/04/64 v Maidstone, played all of following season, left in summer 1965. About 40 games in all.

So he took over when Malcom Mitchell broke his arm at Wembley.

 

We must have had competitive matches after that cup final.

Maidstone was the game before the Amateur Cup final, and Brian then played the final 5 games of the season following Mitchell's injury. Malcolm stayed with the club until the start of the 1966/7 season, playing another 30-odd games

Yes - I remember him. I remembre there were many arguments as to was the better keeper. Am I right in thinking Wolstenholme replaced him?

That is my recollection. JC. IJW took over at Edmonton Grammar in September 1965 and, as far as I know, went straight into the Enfield side.

I stand corrected Jack ,I have no recollection of him playing for enfield.
