Back to the title of the thread... FANS...we come in all guises and we are passionate.

I luv the Ryman Prem and hope we are all in it next season. Apart from Dover ofcourse who are going up. But, how much will they enjoy it in the higher echelons? Ofcourse we'd all like to achieve it, but, what will the reality be? They have a fan base that like a good larf and a day out. That means a lot of travelling, and do the Connie really enjoy themselves as much as we do...???

I can tell you now having been there, give me the conference anyday of the week. Loved travelling all over the country and being one of only 50 fans at Scarborough and 67 at Southport and 100 at Hereford. Those days were priceless and i cant wait to have them back. Not saying i dont enjoy it now cos i do really love it but there is no better feeling at setting off on a Saturday morning to somewhere like Kidderminster.

But Phil, those were in the olden days... It's not the same now. You only have to travel over to the CS forum to see that. You'll miss us all!!

I remember being one of about a dozen fans at Scarborough! The coldest away end on earth. It could be baking around town but ice cold in those seats! Made it more satisfying to win there though!

Don't you try and exclude me as being a 'never been' club! What about if the away trip is that far, you lose 6-0 and are treated like cattle!?! You wont get the lurving reception like you do in the Ryman Prem!

Agree the Conference was amazing. Weekenders at Scarborough, Morecambe and Southport. The stories from these trips are told to this day. Would love to get back there again. For me the coldest ground by a mile was Leigh's old place. Always freezing cold up there when we went. For me, the further the better. When you set off at 7am you know you've gotta make the most of the day.

Those halcyon days-please may they return.

Having said that, and whilst our stay in conf south was rather short,;conf south was not very exciting in terms of 'away, days; imo; and not that far removed from the ryman; excepting that you don't have to go to Essex so much.

i don't think conf south is a place to linger for long -you may aswell be in the ryman than linger for more than two seasons in conf south

HARTSDOWN FAN, we never played dover last year so get your facts right. What do u mean so few let the so fewer down? Its less than 2 weeks ago that half a dozen of your lot caused trouble in our bar after the game but of course you all seem to forget that and funny it doesnt get mentioned on here. You tell me when we last caused trouble at southwood? The one supporter that was causing a bit of crap has been banned for quite some time (after the wealdstone game last season.) I go to nearly all the home games and quite a few of the away games and can hand on heart say that all the regulars are decent people as probably is the case with all clubs.

previous to the incident to which you refer. I as the steward in question had been into the Dover choir and had a word with the Dover guy leading most of the chanting to please refrain from describing sexual relations with a 12 year old. To his credit he calmly said sorry and refrained from chanting it again. A few minutes later I heard the Margate choir use a chant in which Sexual relations between someone and there mother was described. On going into the Margate choir I approached the guy leading the chant to ask him to please refrain as it was over the top. Before I could get my words out I was assaulted by a stream of screamed filth. (I will decide after the MISA meeting tomorrow night, whether or not to speak to KP about this individuals behaviour) Then verbally attacked by a Dover supporter for daring to talk to the Margate fans. The Dover supporter and I had words after the whistle and it was OK.

If this is the way stewards are treated week in week out by fans both home and away then it's no wonder there is a shortage. I for one will have to think long and hard before i put on a jacket again.

I am sure the other stewards will join me in offering my thanks to the fans who came to our aid at the end of the game. THANK YOU.

I, and a great many others no doubt, are extremely endebted to people such as you that are willing to steward matches.

Although it is probably a thankless task, I would encourage you to continue, as the abuse you get, albeit unwarrented and horrible from both away and (sadly) home fans, is uncalled for and by the minority.

The large majority of us stand passively appreciative of your efforts, but would be willing to step in to back you up if needed. I believe this happened Saturday.

On the whole I thought the atmosphere was good. Playing the percentages game, there was going to be a couple of unpleasent 'violent' occurences as well as some personal verbal attacks, one of which I and my kids were subjected to (they won't be returning to HDP on 'big' days for a while). This, unfortunately is the scourge of modern life, not just football.

Well done to matchday stewards and volunteers (shame no-one thought about opening a couple more turnstyles - maybe not possible?). I'll buy you a virtual beer if I can find the virtual bar...

Hang on a minute Blueblood, your version of events is completely inaccurate. I feel, as a member of said choir, that I must give our side of the story (although I'm sure most will already have made up their minds and be firmly against us from now on)...

As I have stated before, I personally don't have a problem with swearing, provided it is only banter. But, as we have been asked to tone the swearing down, we have done so. A number of Dover songs contained profanities. Now, obviously, I do not know if they were approached about this. But, if they were (as you claim), it did not deter them, so, if the club is so against such language, perhaps further action should have been taken.

Then, we sing one song all game with 'foul language' in it and, all of a sudden, almost as if waiting to pounce, you bullishly appear (no sign of this apparent calmful approach you mention) with a tirade of "Now, I've told you before..." As this was not only our first swearing of the game, but in several games (because of the aforementioned previous dislike), we were annoyed for obvious reasons. Constant swearing would have perhaps permitted a calm warning. However, one incident and we are immediately berated!

As for the next part of your account, well even a tabloid would have been proud of this description: "assaulted by a stream of filth". What a joke! We were merely pointing out (with raised voices, I admit - but only to match your raised voice) that you should have been concentrating less on us, the 'one-off offenders', and more on the Dover fans.

Feel free to mention it to KP, and feel free to mention my name, because I will gladly give the real account of what happened. However, as I have mentioned already, as so many seem intent on demonising the choir, I doubt this account will be believed.
