Gosport...

The Hovis Kid

What I heard is that it wasn't the pitch itself (which had looked playable, a few slips but nothing dangerous or comical) but the linesman's area at the far end... the poor assistant ref was scared of slipping over on the turn. I don't know if maybe the managers had been offered the choice and Keith took it, though, I can't see why else Gosport would be blaming our bench: normally it's the ref's decision.

I truly do feel sorry for the Gosport fans - it's not just the entrance fee, it's all the cost of travel and the waste of a bitterly cold day without the expected enjoyment. Plus their team might be pushed to compete so well in the replay, our guys weren't having it too easy out there and I think Chenns and Ben together would have cut holes through their defence.

And a shame that fracas took place in front of so many visitors, too. Although I think amusement was the primary emotion among the neutrals. And Jamie Jarvis breaking into "He's just a ginger Zidane" when Coyney arrived at the Stag was a quality moment.

Shame it was abandoned, both sides were playing well.

Gosport looked a decent side, and probably fancied their chances in the second half.

We looked short up front,Ben porter likes to fetch the ball from deep and feed runners. In other words we were missing chennels.Adam Wallace looks short of matches, which is understandable.

Apart from the odd scare,we again looked solid at the back,Gosports efforts were all from distance.Tilbury deserves praise for his recent performances, but the back five are all quality.

Don't need to dwell on the midfield, they've been superb all season!

I think scott would have switched the forwards second half, and we would have won the game 2-0.

BRING ON TRURO!!

Have to agree it looked like two good teams, but the match wasn't the most exciting and you could see the introduction of Chennells being enough to get us a goal. I don't feel we have anything to fear at Truro as long as we perform as we know we can and have over the last 17 games or so. The players must be starting to believe and i am sure you can see it on the pitch. Win at Truro and we have all got to start to believe, surely.......

Strength in depth, after we beat Truro we had no strength in our squad. With the Batman as our only goal scoring outlet we were left toothless up front, we currently have strength to beat any team in the league with a few players missing (see our last few results without Ben and various defenders) We have performed with different midfield combinations so I don't think the situattion can be compared to Lewes in that sense. Of course all fans know that championships are not won in Jan, but they can be given a strong confidence boost and beating the preseason runaway favourites to maintain our position at the top would surely allow both fans and players to start to believe it is possible?

I understand that because of the postponements, a few key Truro players now have to serve their suspensions against Windsor (Marcus Martin and Jake Ash I think), and some others may also be missing - so this might really swing things in your favour.

If the Gosport faithful have a problem with having to re-travel they should give Chopper (from Liverpool), Myself (from East Northants) & Geggster a call.

We made the trip to Newport Isle of Wight when the game was called off following a "phantom" pitch inspection, with little or no visible surface water....

still bitter about it two seasons after!!

We've had more than our fair share of wasted journeys over the last couple of seasons. I remember getting as far Brockenhurst before finding out the Lymington game was postponed. It didn't curtail our enjoyment we simply did a pub crawl around the New Forest while texting Ian Dawson Phantom score updates.

The forecast for later in the week isn't looking too bad. It

That was excellent. Didn't we tell Smithson the game was still on and finished!?

And who can forget East Thurrock away getting called off and a crawl around the tube!!
