Leyton Game - Postponed

Just heard from Mr Safety Officer, today's game at Leyton FC is postponed due to Frozen Pitch

Just to confirm the news. The match official walked the pitch just before 2pm and decided a section of ground was still frozen and unplayable.

I was there and can confirm because of the "Lea" of the stands for both their supporters the sun could not reach certain parts of the pitch and the frost was still very evident. Sadly, even the good bits would have struggled to take a stud.

Okay - This and other games have been called off due to frozen surface.

 

But, why at 1.00pm is it DEFINATELY ON and at 1.45pm the Referee says it's off .

 

There is no thought given to the supporters travelling and costs etc to these games.

 

WHY can there not be a League rule where the Ref has to inspect by 12.00 - 12.30 and decide. Thus allowing supporters to stay at home OR go to another match if they wish.

 

If a pitch is un-playable at 12.30 it will still be un-playable at 2.30 !!!

 

Think of the Supporters.

Oh come on. In todays conditions nobody could have forecast before 12:30 whether it would be playable at 3:00pm. Sometime life is not a bowl of cherries.

I will get over it - in fact I have, even though I had an 80 mile - 2.5hr round trip, BUT other grounds in the Ryman Leagues including North, had inspections ranging from 11.00 up to 12.30 and decisions made which gave supporters advance warning.

 

Why 1.45 at Leyton.

It's crap.

Supporters were not even considered.

 

I am not suggesting it could have been played - BUT just called off to save travelling etc.

I thought it odd that Leyton Orients game was called off at midday yet we were told that the Leyton pitch was playable.

 

Steph mate trust me If I had set out after being told the game was on today at around 1pm only to get there & find out it was off I would have been well pi$$ed off.

It would have been approx 90-100 mile round trip for me the expense would not have been funny, I agree with OT if the pitch was frozen at midday its not going to thaw by 3pm, unless there is a dramatic rise in temperature.

 

Shoddy behaviour from Leyton (not really unexpected) & officials/league.

Certainly was, I wonder how lovely stuff faired though, I know he has a fair old round trip too.

 

The Histon game was called off before midday, I imagine to at least help the Swansea fans not have a full wasted journey although they were probaly already on their way, even the Birmingham game was called off at midday, with them being a recent premier league team I thought they might of had better facilities.

I did'nt have as long as journey as Gazza would have or OT did. But I was half way there before a kind person text me otherwise. These cancellations are very frustrating and yes OT your bang on, the Officials should be able to decide earlier.

 

However, ithout being a bit of a turncoat, did we not have the same cancellation period if not later v's Northwood at home?

 

There has to be a better policy with cancellations alround with maybe an alert of a neccessary pitch inspection so that supporters can decide whether to risk the journey or not.

The word yesterday from the Sheffield Utd fans who got a look at the Orient pitch was that it appeared that cover in the shadow of the new flats hadn't been put in place, and as a result there was no way the game could go ahead. Something to do with Barry Hearn's competing priorites this weekend, perhaps?

That kind person who sent you a Text was me. Mr Safety Officer was on his way with a Mini Bus Full of Supporters when he had a call to say they where having a Pitch Inspection about 1.45. We still have to pay for the Mini Bus even though we did not make it to the ground. Who compensates us?

I will gladly let others know iof games are called of if they let me have phone numbers

Thanks again, but the mini-bus costs just adds to another reason supporters should be informed of a pitch inspection a lot earlier than 1.45.

 

I suppose its always been as it is, however, a supporters charter should be there to protect the 'blood' of grass roots fans.
