Following the recent cold snap, which has left the "Honeycroft" pitch frozen solid, the New Years Day fixture against Windsor & Eton is in doubt.

The Club intends to get a lunchtime inspection from the Match Referee to see if the game against Windsor & Eton can go ahead. The Uxbridge Clubline will be updated when the inspection is done (01895 4458300)as will be this website.

So please do not travel to the ground without checking whether the pitch will be playable or not. Let's hope the next update tomorrow will yield some more positive news, as this fixture has been eagerly awaited for quite a while.

Won 2-0 and apart from a short spell just before we got our second we were the best side and played some good stuff on the break. Top of the league with a game in hand! Excellent start to a massive month!

Hovis would you get away with it in the army saying "I'm not really up to standing in this desert today" ?

It aint called the barmy 'army' for nothing! 20 laps of stag meadow at half time sounds fair

10-15 behind the goal which is more than most sides bring to stag meadow and the more down the sides.

Saying that we'll most likely be taking more to truro which makes little sense!!!

As for your comment Woody, you are right... just as well I have now left! But see how drunk I am and maybe one day you'll get 20 laps out of me!

I was out of order posting that rubbish.

Please accept my apologies Hovis!

I do however think our attendances are low given the standard and quality of the football on offer.

I appreciate the club is doing it's best to attract more people to games, but i think todays offer should be extended to free entry to kids with any adult.

I also think this offer should run for the rest of the season.

Kids will always want a burger and a drink, maybe even a scarf and a fridge magnet.

In fact,i now want a fridge magnet.

I completely agree, I don't think many women would want to visit Stag Meadow on a cold January afternoon. Adults with children free would be a better idea!

Also, apology accepted... no worries!

We've been suggesting this for a while - either a blanket children enter free, or at least a 'child free with paying adult' rule, but there were always objections.

Personally I think it a very good plan: children supporters are likely to grow into adult supporters (and maybe even the occasional player), plus a few more men might be dragged along if there's 'free' entertainment for their children which they can also enjoy. Plus we have so few paying children normally we'd hardly be losing much in the way of gate receipts, the extra burger/bar takings would surely help here.

Also it might get us a bit better known - a lot of people who've only recently moved to Windsor have no idea there's any local club, still less that the standard of football is so high: I've brought a number of people down over the last few seasons and they've been surprised, I think they've been expecting Sunday league standard or similar. So with an incentive like this we'd be better placed to reach out to schools, after all Trevelyan is only a tiny distance and there's over 1200 children there...

I totally agree that the offer should be put in place for the season, as for the level of support being low, that is epidemic in non league football. Taking into account the level we are at we are reasonably well supported, and if you look at teams at higher levels they do not have great support and are definitley down on levels say ten years ago. There is so much footy on telly all the time it is difficult to persuade someone to come out on a wet and freezing January or February day. What we could have done with is a good cup run or a spot on match of the day. But we have been there before and we just couldn't get a large following, but realistically how many would anyone expect a team in such a saturated area for local teams to be able to attract. Truro have been terrifically successful and have bugger all other local teams around them and manage 500 or so. Personally I think we do okay, yes we could do with a few more and word of mouth and a successful season may push our fanbase up a bit but we need to be realistic and enjoy the fact we can park in our car park.

interesting thread this. Just to add to points made, since the radio campaigns were launched and the different offers introduced by the club (note there are different offers for every remaining league game this season), we have had three successive games with crowds in excess of 200.

Clearly the radio campaigns are working but we cannot rest on this. Perhaps a new poster campaign AND getting into the local schools etc with vouchers and such like handed out to the middle schools?

Gegg, i see what you are saying, but they were all local games around the holiday period and the burnham crowd was 180? Success and local promotions will clearly improve our crowd base, but I wonder how many are new fans and how many are old fans coming back to see a few games now we are playing well. I would love to think we could get 300 regularly, and it is great that the club is trying everything it can to promote the club. Be interesting to see if we can keep our crowd size up, i reckon we should get a bumper crowd next Saturday(didn't a Slough fan once say we have no away support, lets see what the crowd is there!!). Do you know what the crowd was today?
