Billy Bricknell

Will you be able to hold on to him?

Ive seen on your website that there were interested parties and with his goalscoring record 21 so far this season do you think he could move on? and if so how high up the league system do you think he could go.

If it were to happen where would your goals come from?

I'd be extremely surprised if we still had Billy come February. I'd like to see him go to a well run League Two club like Whelps did, not sure he'd be able to cut it in League One straight away.

As for who'd get the goals in his absence, well Joe Flack has started hitting the form that made him the countries top scorer at one point last season.

If Billy went we would miss him but we have enough depth in the squad to get over it. As mentioned, Joe Flack is starting to look sharper and possibly, when on form, the better of the two strikers (IMO). We also have Bradley Woods Garnes, Rikki Burbridge, as well as some talent coming through the under 18's and the reserves.

I for one would love to see another Billericay player make his mark higher up the football pyramid. Sure, with Billy's scoring record, he'll be missed but the fact that should he develop his career to a higher level, the club benefits in a couple of ways:-

a) The money generated by a move

B) The clubs reputation to attract and develop new and exciting players.

In both cases, the clubs resources with be given a boost for a more successful future. Rome was not built in a day and in these uncertain times, clubs have to be self sufficiant to survive and be successful. By being attractive to young players, developing them and encouraging them, taking care of them early in their career can only enhance our reputation and we will reap the benefit.

If Billy does move on, that'll be three players in four seasons. Not bad for a Non League club and I am sure there will be more.

Billy has improved tremendously over the last 12 months, and if he does move on it will be testament to the work he has put in to his game. He's now a lot more consistent and his touch and all round game have come on well. Billy and Neil Marron are the 2 players who really stepped up to the plate when we had that horrendous injury list in the first few months of the season.

In a way, if he did move on it might help us out a bit as we do have a top-heavy squad at the moment with a lot of attacking options - look at the bench on Saturday with Burbs, BWG and Wareham all waiting their chance. If Billy did go, it would enable the management to balance the squad and maybe strengthen elsewhere.

After last nights game I was wondering if you all feel the same should Billy move on?

As stated on the results thread his scoring ratio is fantastic and if he was to leave then a very big hole would need to be filled.

Oh dear, of dear, oh dear...

Billy will move on when someone comes in and offers him an offer he (and we) cannot resist. One would imgaine that, should he be made that offer and go, we have enough talent in the squad (1st team and reserves) to cover and hopefully enough cash, from the move to go shopping.

Gazza is right, if the offer is right, but also if the management, and the Billy himself, feels that he is ready to move on.

But we do have a lot of attacking options in our squad of Flack, BWG, Wareham, Ferguson, as well as players coming through like Jack West, Luca Frankis etc.

That statement is a bit disrespectful to the other members of the squad who covered positions they were not familier with when more experienced players were out injured. We have had absolutly shocking start to the season with injuries and asked players that had very little expereience or were playing out of position to get us where we are (a la Neil Marron). I would rather look at our position in the league and thank those players for their effort because, with those injuries, if we didn't have those players, then our position would've been a lot worse.

Also, one man does not make a team. If memory serves, someone has to either give him the ball or take defenders away for him to have the ball and the space to score...

I don't believe in "if" anymore..

What's the point of speculating? We are what we are, and we are where we are. If there'd been no Billy there would have been someone else. Maybe they wouldn't have been as prolific, but maybe things would have worked out different elsewhere on the pitch. Sliding Doors; parallel universes; the trousers of time splitting into two legs...

Anyway, Bertie Brayley will be avalable soon evil
