Thatcham V Slough Town

Given the last 3 months performances I find it hard that any one in the management committee finds the results acceptable.

Strange selection choices to begin with no Harper and strange substitutions in the game with the removal of Romeo didn't help. But god knows what happened at half time for us to throw away that game.

Credit to Thatcham though, deserved the win but helped by us not showing up 2nd half.

I'm dying to see the management's comments in the papers next week. How they're going to explain a truly dreadful second half is beyond me.

The first half was great, though it was strange for Harper to be on the bench for the first 70 mins. In the second half we panicked, went to hoof and hope football and never looked like scoring.

Feel utterly deflated.

I thought we messed it up in the first half to be honest. Thatcham gave us soooo much time and space in the first half hour that not scoring the 2 or 3 we should have always meant we'd be under the cosh in the second half.

What annoyed me was when it was obvious Thatcham had started very lethargically, where was the increased tempo from us? Why was nobody, management or players, driving us forward like they should have been. We seemed happy to play at the same tempo as them when we could have ripped them to pieces with a little more urgency. We should have done to them what they did to us in the second half.

As soon as the second half started we sat back and got deeper and deeper and it was no surprise what happened after that. I can't believe Yash got subbed when Jordan had done very little to warrant staying on. That was a game we could and should have won.

There's no nice way of saying it - we should have absolutely slaughtered Thatcham in the first half when we had the chance, instead we were made to pay in the second half and it was always on the cards.

We had so much time and space in midfield it was unbelievable, but the chances weren't taken. Romeo is off-form and Jordan appears to lack the confidence to take chances on himself. I thought he was going to score bucketloads this season.

The number 6 was Chris Fermie and I thought he was our best player before he went off (presumably injured, otherwise that was a poor choice).

All very disappointing but not surprising as we've looked incapable of holding on to a lead or a result all season. In fact I think today was a microcosm of our entire season - so promising up front, but defensively naive, and that's why we'll finish a mid-table team in my opinion.

Thatcham looked lively up front but everywhere else they were just like most of the sides in this league - pretty average. Shame we weren't able to take advantage.

I don't follow the argument that we somehow lost it in the first half.

Sure, we could easily have had a 2 goal lead at half time, however we played so badly in the second half that it would not have been enough. There was no strong wind, or anything else, to make one end advantagous, we simply let ourselves be overwhelmed in the second half when Thatcham got stuck in and gave us little space or time on the ball. Doing anything similar in reply was beyond us, as we weren't up for it.

Yash has lost the speed he showed in early games, so his substitution was reasonable as he was quiet even in the first half.

Hope the team got a b*llocking, though lack of direction from the bench also played a part today as their keeper was clearly poor at kicking the ball, but we failed to pressurise him after back passes. An all round 0/10 performance for both team and bench.

The lack of consistency in the team is entirely down to poor leadership from the management, we should never have lost against a team like THATCHAM-mind you we have lost to poorer sides this season, as it seems unlikely that anyone has the will power to sack em and get in some one proven as a manager, the best we can hope for is avoiding relagation now.

Would not surprise me that Harper was left out-because of all the complaints last week about him getting sent off and letting the team down. And when this was explained to the management they thought they had better do something to keep the fans happy-which in itself shows poor management quality-its not the first time he has made decisions based on whats been pointed out to him on here!

My point, Ted, was that had we taken the 2 or 3 goal lead that we should have done then we would have played with more confidence at the start of the second, not sat back and not pooped our pants when they started attacking us. The woeful performance in the second was a direct consequence of not having killed them off when we should have done.

Re Yash, yes he's lost the pace he first showed but even a one-legged Yash looks more threatening than DJ has done for several games.

Guest Wiz (RWG) Is Mudge??

Wiz was you actually at the game today or are you going by the update service as usual?

I think you will find that the lack of cinsistency in the team is down to injuries/suspensions/unavailabilty etc.

When are you going to stop this personal vendetta against Sweetman? Face it, you didnt get the job so move on!

I think todays game was there for the taking in the first half. We should have been 3-0 up in the first half. Second half was a total embarrasment and the players need to have a long hard look at themselves after that performance! I thought Fermie played well today though and I was disappointed to see hime go off. Was he injured?

Jordan is not looking at his best. It sometimes seems like he feels he has to do other peoples jobs by trying to link play. Yash seems to have lost that confidence he had when he first came to the club.

Interesting that Harper was left out today. Was this done so that Sweetman could get defenders playing together to cover his ban? Or was he carrying an injury? Also, I didnt see many complaints about Harper after his sending off last week. I think it was only Wiz and one other? The other posts seemed to be supportive. Maybe i'm wrong. But i do agree that he needs to have his responsibilities highlghted to him!

Having said that, I feel rory Smith did ok today and it always makes a huge difference having Evans in the team.

Does anyone know why Riddell and McCoignley were not even on the subs bench today?

dont know who RWG is but i agree with most of what he has to say,you only have to watch the the games, yesterday we gave them 3 goals by not staying with the ball we should hve beaten this thatcham team, this current management have little or no experience at football management but also they also seem to have little or enthusiam for the game,as for the players they themselves know excatly what their own short comings are on the pitch.whoever owns or runs stfc you must be really frustrated because i have heard that you are funding the team to the tune of 2k per week,if this is true then well done to you sir but for me i would like to see more effort on the pitch and sustained logical thinking from the very quite and unassuming manager that we have at the moment for my money.yesterday was so very poor for so many reasons and needs to be adressed as there is very little that the average fan can do other than want to come along and support the team, buy this needs to be a 2 way street.

How can two halves be so completely different ?

In the first, we were passing the ball around with people running into spaces to collect, the players had confidence, and we had a lot of chances against a defence and keeper that didn't look all that good.

In the second, we couldn't put two passes together, players just hoofed the ball blindly most of the time, and we looked like we didn't want to have the ball.

Let's just hope that the players and others can learn from what went wrong in that second half, and remember how they managed to play in the first half.

5-2-3 cost us today I believe they saw us first half, and their manager saw there were two 30+ year olds covering the whole of midfield, got that message across at half-time and exploited the gaps down the wing where Sonny had a torrid time at right-back, with little support at times. It's far too easy to get at the back 3 with 2 players covering midfield.

Two things really. I think Sonny's done a great job at right-back, but it's no long-term solution and I think it's maybe worth putting him in midfield with Pritchard and Fermie to link the play-up front from midfield and sign a natural right-back. Ideally yes, you'd like to keep Platt, Jordan and Yash happy by playing all three, but playing all three has not worked as shown by our league position.

I'd also like us to be a bit more inventive with our subs. What happens when we are losing? Bubb for Yash/Platt and he just plays in the hole. How about taking off a striker and bringing on Bubb and Attrell and going 4-4-2 with natural wide men? Were a bit too obivious at times with our subs. If you are the opposition manager you know what to expect really...
