ESL Xmas (Half Term) Report

Had a bit of time on my hands and wrote the below on the top 6 in the ESL at Xmas!

Takeley the suprise package and the others are playing catch up. Romford are in the best position and still unbeaten!

Eton Manor are having another decent season after last seasons success.

Bowers, S Manor, Enfield and Burnham all faltered early doors but have improved and alongside Barkingside, I expect them all in the top 8 of the league. I reckon the table will take shape and natural order with these sides all back in that group!

Takeley The top dogs at Xmas and easily the big suprise package, ecspecially when you consider that they lost the first 3 league games. Big and strong side and a refreshing addition to the ESL after some weak additions over recent years. Throwing a 3 goal lead away at Manor on Saturday could prove costly both points wise and psycologically. Dropped pts saturday were the first dropped since September! Out of both Domestic cups so now they can concentrate fully on the league challenge.

Romford My pre-season joint favourites with Enfield have not failed to dissapoint. Unbeaten after 13 league games, drawing just 4 matches! Still in both domestic cups although down in the Lge Cup Q-F 1st leg v Enfield. Could they pull of the treble although promotion is the main aim! Only problem may be the lack of an out and out goalscorer that previous league winners always boast!

Southend Manor Another club arguably over-acheiving under new management. Like Takeley they had a shaky start with a loss and a draw. Manor are Out of the Lge cup but still in the Brasted Q-F, the team are improving but like Romford they lack an out and out goalscorer.

Eton Manor Started slowly following the success of last season, new managment in Sept has coincided with an improvement in results. Eton Manor have been decent and deserve their fourth spot going into Xmas. Recently added a couple of quality players on dual registration with Tilbury. Still in the Brasted Q-f but lost their Lge Cup title by failing to progress from the group stages.

Enfield Expected to set the pace following losing out last seasons title on goal difference. A Poor spell around September-October time has seen them lose 5 of their opening 13 matches...they only lost 3 league games in the whole of last season. Recent improvements have seen the E`s climb back into the title race and should they win the two games in hand, they would be just 4 points behind the leaders. Expect Enfield to come strong and they are still in both cup competitons. Loss of Stanley was huge but recent addition of Jones could prove a masterstroke!

Burnham Another side touted to do well this season and snapped up Dean Allen for his goals. The money was pulled early doors and this led to a mass exodus of players and eventually the manager. New managment was installed and Burnham have been on a fantastic run picking up some result against sides around them and above them. They have turnt things around quickly and are still in the race for a top 4 spot and maybe better!

The rest:

Sawbo Hot and Cold side, get up for the big games but falter against the so called lesser sides. On a great run under new management.

Hullbridge Hard opponents and started well, they had a poor six week spell which has cost them but they have recently found form again!

Barkingside The player personel suggests the Potential to be a decent side (Ecspecially when pulling in Aveley players) but still hit and miss at the moment.

Basildon Great league start winning the opening 6 games, a great run in the Vase but since that 'Echo' write up, they have fallen big time. Will expect Bas to bounce back for a midtable finish.

Bowers Biggest dissapointment this season with the money involved, Crossy appears to have re-built the side and things have improved. I expect a strong second half of the campaign from Bowers.

Stansted I have'nt seen them yet but they also seem to raise it for the big games. Demetriou scores loads for them. Midtable side but a tricky match.

London Apsa Again I have'nt seen them...great start but have faltered of late.

Barking Massive improvment under the new managment, I expect them to gradually climb up the table.

Clapton Just an aggy side, spoil the game and pick up points. No-one likes a visit to the Old SPotted Dog ground so that is a massive advantage for Clapton.

Mauritius Did'nt think that they were that bad a side, just one win in the league so far. Discipline is a huge problem.

Have a great Xmas everyone!
