reserves at Douvres

Was unsure whether to go and watch the 1st team at home or our reserves away at Crabble yesterday. Decided to go with the latter as it was a cup game and many of the lads on show are those that I have watched since their Primary school days.

The game was totally dominated by our young guns for a good 70-75 minutes of the game. We closed Dover down all over the pitch to great effesct from each and everyone of our players. All then played with great self-belief on the ball and looked for each other at every oppertunity.

In the 5-10 minutes or so of the 1st half that Dover came into the game our goal-keeper (who I think was Darren Goldsack, but I have not seen him since he was about 12 or 13 years old) made two strong one handed saves parrying them over the cross bar. On the one occasion in this half that he was beat Luke Wheatley was on hand to header an off goal-line clearance over the bar.

The rest of the half we totally dominated and if we could have converted 3 or 4 guilt edged chances could have gone in well up. Yet it was a very strong half shown by our lads.

Out they came for the second half and for the first 20 minutes or so Dover couldn't really get out of their own half. Paul Axon, Shane Brown and Harker were having a field day down our right flank and eventually the goal came from this side of the pitch. Axon knocking the ball back to Harker who knocked a telling ball into the box. Dover unable to clear it with the ball being knocked down to the floor and 3 or 4 Margate players pouncing on the ball with it ending up in the back of the net. I did not see which lad got the final touch but was just elated to see it in the net for what was a very deserved lead.

Dover had another 5 minute spell at the end of the game and saw another headed goal-line clearance this time by Nick Treadwell.

Each and every player played their part in this victory but ultimately my MOTM went to the "Oltinator" Olti Keki (another who I have watched for several years now). He was imense in breaking up play, calming things down and finding his passes all over the pitch. Plus he had a shot in the 2nd half that nearly crept in the top left stantion of the goal but missed by inches. Would have been something as I think I've only ever seen him score once before. Elliot Payne (yet another I've watched for sereral years) put in a couple of terrific set piece free kicks and tried his best to stick a coulple of his direct exorcets through the back of the net but unfortunately they rose over the bar.

The one thing it does show is that at this level we have a far stronger set of players than our league leading conterparts and the future looks rosey for Margate in the years to come.

Well done to all, great game, great pitch, great team togetherness shame that Crabble Burgers aren't up to Hartsbown standards though!!!

Final score a very well deserved 1-0 to Margate.

By the way I was speaking to Mark Weatherlly before the game and there should be a friendly with Canterbury on Tuesday night to take a look at a couple of very good trialist prospects and said it should be a good night. Just incase anyone's interested in having a look.

Thre is no doubt in my mind that the backroom staff at the club are all pulling together and this result shows how we have a great future with lads of obvious ability and potential. The future is undoubtedly bright lets just hope that we have one.
