Big Nevs Fighting talk

Turning our attention to Saturdays game. They are on a losing streak & will be all out to stop the rot.Our recent record is only slightly better. But we need these points on Saturday.ALL 3 points.

From the local today (a few snippets) : (Mainly for those exiles)

Neville Southall says:

He wants Margate to stand up to the "bully boys".

"It was great when Richard (Shittu)came on against Carshalton & started messing their centre-half about instead of being bullied".

"If you stand up & fight, you often find the bullies back down".

"As a team we do the good things well but we need to work on the rubbish things like being prepared to put your face in & get hurt".

"We're looking for a really high tempo for 90 minutes, putting pressure on the ball & showing a desire to win & a willingness to get hurt for team-mates,the club & the fans".

Great words Nev!!. Now lets turn those words into action.

Love it-its not pretty-but its effective-at this level, an average big 'un beats a good little 'un,so lets bully our way to victory.

I'd love to see MFC become the Leeds of the 70's, the Arsenal of the 90's and bully our way to success.

Once we start winning ,then you can concentrate of the entertsaining football stuff but not before

(any mention if the likes of erksine-looks like in theory his loan is up after saturdays game-,savage, healey, tako are still with the club-i've lost track of whose signed/loaned /been /gone )

I note that Wellsies review on the official site mentions healey, but not tako or savage ,although i think it just reflects wellsies personal view of things

I didn't know you had a copy up there Michael!

Big Nev also said :

"Terry loves the sort of player who gives everything they've got but does it with a bit of class. That Leeds side he played in were excellent".

"People were kidded into believing they kicked teams to bits"

"If teams wanted a war,Leeds could win in a war,but they could also play teams off the park"

I love the casual mention about Leeds from our management team - and it's not from their imagination. They've done it! Very cool.

Lets top 500 again everyone. COME ON!!

Come out & Support your team, more especially at this time.

Don't sit in the warm saving a few quid, watching the rugby or whatever it is you watch & listening to the "free" commentary of our game at the same time.(no disrespect intended Wellsie).

Enjoying at the same time a cuppa or a beer when you want it (also for "free")!

Now,how many & who will be posting on the forum during the match? (those living locally) None I hope! Your club needs you, your fellow supporters need you,the players need you....... but they need you THERE!!

There.........more fighting talk!!

Come on now lets ALL be there!! Lets give our lads a "fighting chance"!

I just wish it would make a difference Geoff. Somehow I think it will just fall on deaf ears.

We have a few decent looking players in now & they need paying.Entrance fees are our main source of income & I think we should all be there even if its just to help the club out in this way. But we all know there are many other reasons why we should be there. The team appreciate a good turn out & might just play all the better for it too.

Like I say I expect all this to fall on deaf ears but also think its worth a shot.If we can get just 5-10 (a lot more would be better obviously) stayaway (supposed) supporters/fans of this club back it will have been worth the effort.

Totally behind the 'your team needs you' call to arms Cookie.

part of the problem is though, that despite what we may think whilst we natter away to ourselves on this forum-and most forum users are commited anyway and we are only a very very small proportion of the target audience-probably 0.5% -its the floating supporter who maybe reads the local media,(and thats probably not that many either ) maybe reads only the national sunday football pages and spots that 'Margate had a good win' so maybe i'll go next time -that needs to be cultivated.

How exactly thats done is the hard part and most clubs are struggling with the answer.

Only proven way is to get a winning side

There are many who come on here Michael that are staying away (they know who they are). Some that would have,in the past, never have missed a game at home. Some if not all who are genuine & really nice people. However they (& we) should be setting an example to others who maybe are not as proud of this club as we are & who only occasionally appear through the gates.

I don't care what the reasons are for staying away we should all be there supporting & trying to help as best we can.

As for those that don't come on the forum,I agree its outside matters i.e press & promotions that will sway them to come but i.m.o.if die hard supporters won't come then how can we expect others to. We should be setting an example to those occasional spectators.

Results I agree are a big big help in getting more people there but that's not in my/our court. We can only do what we can do & that's to turn up & support those that are putting in the effort on the field of play.It won't guarantee a result but it has to be more of a help than a hindrance surely.

We've had too many knock backs recently from outside sources to continue to contribute to one ourselves.

End of rant & end of the gospel according to me. angry

Two very contrasting posts, the last two. I dDon't come on here very often, but I have to say I'm right behind Cookie. I can't boast 30 years, but I can with hand on heart say I've been to every home match (and that includes HLP before Dover and Ashford as well as HDP again!) when I've been in Thanet.....which means most of them. The reason I have is because I enjoy watching non-league football, support my local team, have a few mates who I enjoy a laugh and a chat with, and like every other genuine football supporter in the land, I turn up at every match believing that a win for his team will be the outcome 90 minutes later. If 21 'supporters' won't come back until a member of the non-playing establishment isn't around, that to me isn't fair on the blokes on the park doing their best - they aren't into the politics of it all, and neither am I. For goodness sake get back and support the players. Your

Unfortunately we as a club don't do ourselves any favours. Last week we had no match and we have an excellent facility in the five a sides. We also have a school within touching distance of us. My idea would have been to send invites out to the school and others offering a coaching session with Nev and TY and some of the players. They were all available, (although one may be watching this weeks oppo). Offer the session for say

MM is spot on, the only proven way is a winning team. I f we were top of The Conference we wouldn't care that our website was cr^p or be bothered so much by off field activities.

Great rallying call by Cookie btw but I feel the dig at the stayaways was unnecessary as people have their reasons. I was there in minus degrees for our lowest league crowd at Homelands and it was my megaphone that helped the clubs survival last time so for people to suggest those who choose not to go any longer aren't proper supporters is a bit strong. I genuinely can't wait to start attending again (and as soon as me false beard and dark glasses arrive) I'll be back-well I wouldn't miss the Ramsg*te game anyway. All I want is Saturday afternoon football supporting me team without any hassle.
