I never saw the "actual" letter. Did anyone see it? Does one really exsist?
Will Lever now cut his losses & run (who could blame him if he did),hence will the outstanding tax bill now be left to us to pay,(assuming Lever was going to square this up if he had got the go-ahead last night).
What did surprise me at the time is that a "deal" was made with the taxman to pay up when the development began (now a non-goer).I'm surprised they agreed the deal knowing that a positive decision by the council was a long way off being a "done deal"!
I'm pleased of course they took the gamble but what happens now. Will we be back to square one after a further 4 minor payments are made. Will we yet be given 10 points deduction if we can't pay the larger sum still outstanding?
Maybe best to wait to hear from the club as to what happens next & what route they are to take. I am concerned though.

Nil desperandum.

As i think Broadstairs dave posted-as long as the club has the will power, this one still looks like it has legs.

Not that many commercial proposals get through on the first attempt

2 objections to overcome.

3 councillors in favour.

need to modify/justify the proposal and with skill, it will get through on a resubmission.

As you say though-lets hear what the club says on it-what was said on KMFM ?

I'm just slightly concerned as to how long a further attempt will take though. My main concern right now is the tax bill. The development, whilst obviously very important can have a few more months to get it right but that tax bill is still hanging over us & still threatens our future. We don't have the luxury of time to rid ourselves of this threat without having to make sacrifices.

----------------------------------------------------------------

The redevelopment of Margate FC is in limbo again after Thanet councillors gave plans to build a new medical centre at the club the red card.

The Hartsdown Park side had wanted to build a new complex containing a surgery, dentist, optician and pharmacy next to its current stadium.

It would have acted as a catalyst for the long awaited revamp of its ground but a planning committee last night (Wednesday) voted to refuse permission.

Tom McKenna, chairman of Margate Independent Supporters Association, said fans left the council meeting "dejected" and admitted he was unsure how the club would move forward.

He said: "It's holding up the progress of the club. Less than ten years ago we were playing in the Conference and it's amazing to think that we're now struggling to survive.

"You have to wonder how long the developer will put up with our situation. Every week there seems to be another setback but we'll continue to fight and support the club. That's all we can do."

Mr McKenna urged Margate fans to get behind the team with a large turnout at Saturday's crucial game at home to Harlow.

The match provides an opportunity for the Gate to distance themselves from the relegation zone, with Harlow only two points and one place above them in the Ryman Premier League.
