The Day Britain Stopped

Recommended Posts

I think what they were saying was if the M25 was gridlocked, how would people who work at Heathrow such as pilots and more importantly air traffic controllers get there. To get to Heathrow you have to use the M25. There was a national rail strike as well so people who work at Heathrow would not be able to get to work. This lead to the situation where air traffic controllers were forced into working longer shifts and as a result lead to lapses in concentration that could prove devestating.

Unfortunately my tape ran out about twenty minutes from the end, so I didn't get to see how it all ended up. It made for pretty scary viewing though and certainly the scenario was believable. It's a million to one shot that it would happen but it's possible.

I had to admit it made for great viewing. Definitely one of the more interesting television programmes this year.

It's made all those away trips on the M25 just a little more scary now!!

new labour propaganda to make everyone agree with loads of tax on motorists for new roads (that wont be built) and to make everyone relax about the idea of 3 huge new runways in the south east.. add in a bit more tax for lots of new railway safety stuff, like er higher wages for thornsy so he can afford the drugs to keep him awake...

otherwise C.Z. is spot on

Mildy amusing. Nice work, Zeal.

The programme last night was alright, quite interesting, but as one says, the chances of all the same things happening on the same day (rail strike, car chaos, England football friendly, last Friday before Christmas, two diversions diverted into each other, the tanker jack-knifing (how did it happen - er, dunno), and the two planes crashing into each other. Interesting nonetheless though, compared to all the other cr@p on TV these days. Apart from The Simpsons. And Family Guy. And Hey Arnold.

Well, I thought 'The Day Britain Stopped' was good.

The frightening fact was revealed at the end of the programme, for those of you that didn't see it to the end.

BECAUSE THERE HASN'T BEEN A MAJOR INCIDENT AT HEATHROW FOR 50 YEARS, THE AUTHORITIES SEE NO REASON TO UPGRADE THE SAFETY SYSTEMS !

The programme was debated at length on Newsnight later in the evening.

Paxo's comments were very good.

Watch this space, or better still, Watch the Skies !!

Could be right Canv and CZ.

I live a few miles from Gatwick !

The poitico's aren't giving up on expanding there to another runway, at the expense of a complete lovely rural village !

We get regular traffic reports on the M.23 and M.25 on our local radio station, (Capital in Crawley), so I know just how often theese motorways come to a standstill !
