AFC HORNCHURCH 3 BILLERICAY 2 (AET)

Oh well, just the League Cup to go, and I'm pretty sure we'll have a good stab of cocking that up as well.

As for tonight, the predictability of it all was laughable. It may have only been the Essex Senior Cup, but it offered a small glimmer of excitement in a season that has so far delivered anything but.

I believe that comment was aimed directly at Dale, who was giving the Lino a hard time for what he perceived to be a mistake. I suspect the perpetrator of the Peterborough comment was merely reminding Dale that none of us are immune from the occasional balls up!

Sh!t game. Sh!t result. Sh!t defending of a two goal lead. Sh!t waste of time.

I am in two minds about this. Ok we lost, giving awat a two goal lead, but at least it wasnt 3 points that we lost.

Last night was quite a disgrace.. 2-0 up with 5/10 to go and they score twice? What happened to the defence that had looked solid all night? Why didn't the management go defensive and bring on Leon and wareham in the closing stages of the match Instead of keeping the attacking line?

Once again we concede from a long throw/a set piece, any chance of stopping these?

We really did f**k it up last night. I just don't know what went wrong.

TBH we played some great football yesterday and I am certainly not going to dig the players out. We had them on the rack. But football is a team game, from the managers, down to the players on the pitch and on the bench. IMO, it was the lack of reaction from the bench when the game went 2 - 1 (some may say 10 to go 2 zip but that IMO is "Harry Hindsight") that lost the match. Oh and taking off two of our best players on the night (certainly of the second half) Joe Flack and Wayne S. Once again, the wrong choice as regards strikers because IMO, tired or not, Joe was doing more damage to their back four than any of the strikers used up to the point they pulled him!!!

There, I've done it. I've said some of what was on my mind last night (not all...there is still some more to come).

Some may ask me, why do I feel this way because it was only the ESC. Well 1) we were playing Hornchurch, a local derby and a team I would like to see us beat. It's all about local rivalry. Nothing personal about the Urchins, I am sure they feel the same. 2) The Essex Senior Cup is a decent cup IMO and one I think we could've done well in. I'm an old git that remembers many a ESC campaign in previous seasons, where we as a club had done well. This was our chance for some silverware and once again, we blew it.

Sorry if I've upset some people but I am still annoyed.

And I got throigh this post without swearing.

On the up side, Joe Flack's performance and setting up both goals.

But overall it was frustrating to throw another lead away in the closing stages, this time two goals. 2 up and pretty much in control. Concede a soft first, no changes to personnel and the equaliser always looked like coming.

I agree with gaz. The players did put on a good performance so you can't dig them out, but again, why did we take off Flack and Wayne? Probably the two best players in the second half instead of two different players?

I guess there is always the league cup? Maybe we can try and win that if it's possible?

Much as I'd like Billericay Town to play football like Arsenal, they've taken my wishes too literally by allowing a 2 goal advantage to evaporate in the dying minutes of a game against the local rivals smile

It's been a worrying pattern recently letting an advantage slip late on, so something for the team to work on both on and off the pitch to get the tactics right to secure a winning position.

I'm out with my friend from Hornchurch tonight (who couldn't make the game yesterday) so that's gonna be fun!

Lets learn from it and make sure we get all 3 points on Saturday!

We have now had two games on the trot where we have faced a so-called long throw expert.

Its big at the moment because of Delap at Stoke, but both the 2 we have faced have been poor throws.

They got the distance but no power or decent trajectory.

In short, the keeper should be coming 2 yards of his line, catching the ball and getting on with the game.

Where was he??

He is very obviously a good keeper and made some great saves again last night, but there is no command of the area and imo is no better than Jack Buckfield.

While neither goal came directly from a throw, it was causing unnecessary concern in our goalmouth far too often.

Other than that, I thought all played reasonably well for 80 minutes last night before seemingly giving up when their first went in.

Wayne was man of the match for me with Ashley and Big Dunc also very strong.

Shame to be out of the Cup, however immaterial it may seem to some.

Onwards and upwards for Saturday. After we stole the points in Cricklewood earlier in the season I fear that Hendon owe us one!

I don't think Tucker was at fault for any of the goals, even if he was 2 yards off his line, i think they still would have scored. Like you said Barry T, he made some excellent saves last night. I am not quite sure what you mean by Where was he? Becase in my view he done all that he could. I also disagree with you in the fact that, Tony does command his area. The defence look more solid and more comfortable with Tony in goal.

What a disappointing way to exit this competition.

The substitutions that Hx made (especially Parker) won them the game.

The substitutions that we failed to make cost us the game.

If someone can explain why we brought on Hunter and Wareham 3 minutes into extra time and not after 75 minutes of normal time when we were 2 up I'd love to know. Certainly bringing on Hunter in place of one of the front three looked a regulation change to me at 2-0. Some people might say it's "Harry Hindsight", others might say it's good management.

I remember reading the Chairman's Blog a couple of weeks ago about learning from mistakes. It's difficult to see what we learned from flogging eleven players and using no subs against Staines for 90 minutes on a heavy pitch and doing exactly the same again tonight except that the outcome is remarkably similar. I notice this week's blog makes reference to the pantomime season....

Ending on a positive though. I thought that we played pretty well for the vast majority of the game and I agree that Flackie was outstanding, virtually back to his best. Oh and Tucker is way above Buckfield imo but of course opinions is what makes this a fun game...

Come on you Blues!!!

I was referring particularly to the long throws. In both games we looked in all sorts of trouble from a looped-in throw which any commanding keeper would be eating up.

I felt that we went into panic mode whenever the ball was hurled in, and my feelings were that the keeper could and should have dealt with the majority.
