THE man who led Basildon United to their best start to a campaign for many years, manager Colin Cook, has quit the club.

The new towners began the 2008/08 season with six straight league wins and a great start to their FA vase campaign.

But since those heady days it has all gone wrong at The Hive, Basildon

You're right Roscoe, when it comes to Basildon Utd, believe nothing of what you hear and only half of what you see. Colin has acted with dignity and is not prepared what to say what actually went on, but when he is prepared/ready to say what happened, you will find out that everything the previous management/administration warned of came true.

It boils down to having one's trust and faith being destroyed by broken promises!!!

They have an excellent PR man. The bottom line is the people running the club do no want success. That, on the surface, may seem like a crazy thing to say but it's true. They only care about the bar takings. That and the eventual sale of the land.

Why they shouldn't want success? It brings more people through the gates and at the bar, gives publicity to the whole club etc, etc. The manager in charge of a successful team might get offers from a bigger club and all the rest.I don't agree entirely with you Hookey. The truth lies always half-way.

You're not local are you? The club has had a compulsory purchase order hanging over it by English Partnership for nearly 20 years, which it has earmarked for development. If they bought the ground then the money could be used to purchase a new one (Though I can't see that happening).

However, EP have not bought the land, they only have the right to if and when they choose, which leaes the club in limbo. They can't sell it and they can't develop it.

Perhaps I should have said they do not want to have to pay for success. It is certainly not something they are striving for.

Well take your money and pick a nag in the 3:30 at Cheltenham, because you'd have a better chance of a return on your investment than if you gave it to Bas Utd. It's a money pit!!!!

Hockey,I'm sure that everybody that has been interviewed for the Basildon job before, has enquired about the ground situation. So anybody that has taken over in the past or will take over in the future is perfectly aware of the matter. No chance of promotion for the club but a good opportunity for a new manager,to make himself known to the local circuit and if successful to get a job at a bigger club with funds and a chance of promotion or either at a Ryman club.So why Cusack should spend money on a team knowing that they can't go up because of the ground problem? It doesn't make sense to me.As a Basildon manager you have two options:1)stay at the club waiting for the time when the ground will be sold and possibly money available for a new ground purchase, making sure you build your own team for the future and improve the youth sector.2)try to get as many sponsors as you can to pay some sort of expenses to good players and have a go at finishing in the top 4 or winning it so other club's chairmen will knock on your door and off we go.So i'm sure whoever has been in charge at that club knew the score from the beginning.I don't think Cusack is in a position to make promises to any Basildon's manager because he doesn't even know himself what is gonna happen with the ground sale.So my advice to anyone that wants to take over is:enjoy the ride and make the most of it!
