Last season I posted on here that there are a large number of young lads between 18-25 years of age who regularly spend most of Saturday afternoon’s in their local pub watching the results come in over a pint or two. These people are mainly supporters of London clubs who rarely get the chance to go to say Arsenal, Tottenham or Chelsea every week because of the ridiculous prices and the lack of available tickets.

Wouldn’t it be an idea to distribute posters or even leaflets advertising GNFC and details about their coming matches in local pubs? As someone who falls into this category, I have very little outgoing and have a few quid each week in which to spend watching the fleet, having a few drinks in the bar and buying merchandise from the club shop without missing the money. I’m sure there are many more across Gravesend in a similar situation.

I know the club has limited resources with which to operate, but maybee there are other way's of generating a small amount of money in which to carry out this idea?

I don't mind knocking up some posters for the club (as long as someone coughs up for the printing!) as I do graphic design at work. I did one last season and would be happy to do some more next year, and also for the Supporters Trust if they're interested.

I would be more than willing to contribute towards this. Do you have any idea how many posters and lefleats would be needed, and roughly how much they would cost?

There are many a pub in Gravesend, Northfleet, Swanscombe and the surrounding area, that have a great many untapped Fleet fans.

Its a great idea, getting out there with posters / leaflets etc.

Maybe , we can give each landlord / landlady a couple of free tickets if they display our fixture list in their bar... ( If nothing else , it should get a few extra people down the games who might, just might come back again)

It needs a few volunteers to trawl around all the pubs , but surely we must have some hardy souls up for the challenge...

I know I always confuse the objectives of an ST with what the club could/should be doing ( please see earlier posts ), but I feel happpier if my contributions were being spent on cultivating future Fleet fans and improving our attendances( As this is where any long term success would be based upon ) than subsidising players wages who are here one minute , gone the next.

I will gladly spend time, money and effort on this sort of initiative over the summer months ( once fixtures published ) , if this is something that is deemed worthwhile.

Not wishing to blow my own trumpet but I already have a

full-colour poster designed, incorporating action photographs from last season that advertises the first 6 fixtures of the new season - once we know them of course!

I was looking to circulate 500 odd A2/A3+ sized posters around the 60 odd pubs in Gravesened and Northfleet, the

40 odd schools, all of the Fleet Sponsors, Libraries, Cafe's, along with a number of the key businesses in the town and the different train stations.

To encourage the businesses to put up the posters I was thinking of asking Dave if we could have a Local Business Directory put on the www.gnfc.co.uk website. For example, if a supporter requires the services of a Solicitor, Accountant or just fancied a drink at a different Pub they could refer to the details listed in the Business Directory and help the Club by supporting a business that supports the Fleet. With our growing fan base this ought to appeal to local businesses. Don't worry Dave I'd be happy to do this work!

I ought to add that I havn't approached anyone at the Club about this yet - simply because not a lot can be done until the new fixture list is announced. The whole idea maybe a non-starter, especially if the Club turns round and says Thanks but No Thanks! We're not interested. However, your comments have forced me to come out into the open!

To be honest, I'm not bothered who does this as it will certainly involve a lot of leg-work but the important thing is that it gets done by someone. I'll even put the money up for it so it won't cost the Club a penny!

I realise there are a lot of idea's being "bounced" around on the website at the moment but as Andy remarks in his Managers Report - its not always a case that the Club doesn't want to implement these idea's - its just the Club doesn't always have the manpower.

p.s. I also done the posters for the Player Pledge scheme but this one is a vast improvement on them. Promise!

I am delighted to see that these kind of initiatives are taking place.

There are many things we as a club would have liked to have done in the past but have not had the manpower. The efforts put in already by those involved with the club are immense and so there are limitations on what can further be achieved.

If a Supporters Trust can bring all this enthusiasm together and people are happy to do the leg work to drive these ideas forward then who knows what can be achieved.

Up untill a few years ago we did have posters advertising forthcoming fixtures, I remember regularly performing the task of distributing some to local pubs (what a hardship). I hate to say this but Dartford put us to shame and have posters all over the place...well all over Dartford! I can't imagine that there is a Landlord or shopkeeper in the area who would object to advertising our games.
