Press release from Boreham Wood FC ,can`t see it working and i don`t think we could afford to do it but at least they are trying to boost their attendance, i think the free entry to the armed forces is a very good move.

"With the Credit crunch and Christmas costs hitting families and businesses all over the region Boreham Wood Football Club has decided to act in a positive fashion to give local people value for money for the remainder of this Season, as an early Christmas Present.

Doomed to failure imo.

Asa you say pagey-can't see it working

Discounting just does not work.

Accepting that you may gain from spin off drink/food sales etc.,if you have say a gross margin of 50% which you probably would on 'gate money, and you reduce prices by just 15%,you need 45% more customers to attend just to stand still.

BW appear to have reduced prices even more-are they going to get a 60% increase in attendances-doubt it somehow.

Nice bit of PR-but will go bust in the process !!

One fewer to worry about then !

What they should do is increase their price by a

The thing about BW is that they get next to no support anyway, so they haven't really got anything to lose! The money they take at the gate is more or less irrelevant in terms of running the club - their chairman just pumps loads of cash in. When we played at their place there were only about 70 people in the ground (official crowd 122). And the bit about letting 'our boys' in for free just seems like a bit of a gimmick.

I know for a fact that the chairman of BW Danny wanted to give free admission but was forced not to. BW don't survive on gate receipts and there club is one of the most profitable clubs in any league. They employ over 10 fulltime staff and still make a profit so giving away free entry is no problem to them. Good on Danny he is one of the lucky people who can give something back a nice bloke to speak to and a good business man.
