Basildon United Manager Resigns

Website says "Personal Reasons", I hope nothing is wrong with Colin or his family.

I was half expecting to see something about a dispute over funds with she who must be obeyed!!!

Whatever the reasons Colin, you did a great job there and your stock as a manager at that level will have risen big time.

All the best for the future mate.

Hookey, thanks mate for those very kind words.they mean a lot to me at the moment. This will be the only post I make on this subject, but myself and my family are very well thank you,I leave behind me some very good people who I have the utmost respect for and who it has been a joy to work with, and I honestly wish them nothing but good luck, unfortunatly you have heard the old saying "The straw that broke the camels back".

No way enrico. Im enjoying it at GWR too much at the moment. I reckon when im 30 , if im not playing to a decent standard , then i hope to have a crack somewhere. But it would have to be somewhere which is run the right way.Id be happy with zero budget if it just meant i was left to do it my way. Basildon is a poisoned challice , absolute no win situation

I'm amazed the Council is doing nothing to give them a proper home and move back to Ryman.A town like Basildon deserves more.

In the present credit crucnh climate i dont think Basildon council could justify spending all that dough on a ground when your getting 50 people through the gates .

the local parish helped GWR to find a piece of land where build their ground and there are only 7000 living in the village!Basildon is 10 times that number and they are still left in the limbo, not knowning what their future will be from one day to another!!!They are changing a manager every 6-12 months and the reason is:there is no way forward!

We all due respect Blanchy,I was asked 3 years ago but with no chance of progressing due to the uncertain ground situation,it's really an up hill job.I'm happy at Hullbridge and I like Nigel Clough, proper manager. If he ever leaves Burton Albion then i'll follow up! grin

Jenks thanks for the kind words. I myself have been away from Basildon utd for the past 5 weeks now,and i wont go into the reasons why, what i will say is it wasent a footballing matter. I dont think anyone apart from myself knows how much time and effort Colin has put into the the club. when we first come to the club it was 7 days a week geting the place up and running, many times we wouldent leave till 11pm at night, but hey all good things must come to an end. Good luck who ever takes it over (your gonna need it)

Would not pretend to understand the politics at Basildon (if indeed there are any). However I would suggest that the Bas people this season have really put a lot of effort into putting the club on the map, given their limited resources.

Not sure if I am reading into these threads right, but it comes across as if those that have gone the extra mile to make things work at Bas have been let down by others and therefore feel the need to walk. If that is the case, shame on those who have let them down.

Re the Bas ground situation. I understand they are victims of an ongoing compulsory purchase order that looks like it will never happen. I suggest they lobby their local MP etc to find out the bottom line on the whole sorry mess. If the land is never going to be redeveloped then they have a stadium which can easily be brought up to Ryman standard.

It will be interesting to see who will take the team tonight (Richard193? Cusack?), also how many players will turn up, or will they follow Colin out of the door, as Jason Emery's team did, though that was close-season.
