Attendences

Enfield United

Recommended Posts

Attendances are always down during the run-in to Christmas period. More important is the trend since August, following the sharp decline last season, and this is not particularly encouraging. Success breeds success, and there hasn't been too much of that,so people are voting with their feet and spending their time and hard-earned money on other things. Pre-season there was a lot of hope and optimism that this was going to be our season. A strong squad of players had been assembled, and we were many peoples favourites for promotion. Sadly, four months on, despite management changes, the largest number of player signings in the clubs short history, we are out of all the major cup competitions, with little realistic hope of making the play-offs even allowing for that excellent result at Maldon on Saturday. I hope very much that I am wrong, but have a nasty feeling this is going to be another of those 'if only' seasons when we miss-out yet again, despite a strong finish. Think quite a few others share this view, and this probably accounts, to a great extent, for the decline in our home attendance.

I would have agreed with you before Saturday but now I think we have a realistic chance of the play-offs.

1) After the results on Saturday if we win our games in hand we are only 10 points away from a play off place. Ware are in trouble and I think we can beat WABBEY on Saturday.

2) We played Maldon in the first game of the season and only managed a 2-2 draw. On Saturday we were the only team in it. So which side has gone backwards.

3) The coaching on Saturday was the best town have ever had. (And that includes Jim) You could hear the new man all around the ground and the players knew what they had to do. There was no swearing just an exhortation to roll the ball.

4) The season is still less than half way through and if we can string a run together - as I believe we can - we will quickly climb the table.

Agree Steph, if we can put a good extended run together then its easily achievable, remember Crystal Palace in the championship when Neil Warnock took over, in the bottom three in November but ended up in the play-offs come April.

But I cant see that all the opposition being as bad as Maldon, I was shocked how dreadful they were, the first two goals were xmas gifts & they looked totally disorganised, but you can only beat whats put in front of you, so lets hope it continues.

Defeat "route one Wabbey" on Saturday & I will start to believe & renew my interest & excitement for the rest of the season.

And with another club (Cheshunt) cutting its wage bill, you wonder how many clubs currently have sustainable ambitions.

Agree totally with Steph's last post and with Gazza's too. Wabbey is a big game for us now, win it and we are potentially on a positive roll.

I thought we needed 15 out of 21 pts a little while back to move us into the right direction, but cancellations have somewhat disrupted the games in mind. However we have achieved a return of 7 out of 12 points (very average)therefore a target of 3 wins out of the next 3 v's Wabbey, the faltering Leyton and the beatable Concord.

As Steph mentioned, clubs above us (and there are quite a few)are not able to financially sustain their current achievements and we have no financial problems off the field its just the poor results on it that need rectifying and signs are we are beggining to make progress.

Glad to hear a bellowing Coach is making a difference look forward to hearing him myself at Leyton and home to Concord.

Mitch probably saw the writing on the wall. He would have been lucky to get a regular spot.

Rudi, Jon, Andy and Luke in the current playing team are clearly ahead of him on the team sheet and I am informed that there are more former PBT players waiting on the side lines.

Best of luck Mitch.
