That is 2 beers tomorrow now. 1 for me and 1 for Krooner the Youngest. And he is hard so you had better do it.

The words, 'BREATH', 'HOLD' and 'DON'T', fit so neatly into a sentence !

Just a fan Dave. If they had me as a player, they really would be a club in crisis! grin

to answer a few of your questions tsf,

i believe we started our saturday football adventure in the surrey south east combination junior 1st div ( deep breath )

then the intermediate 2nd then 1st divisions. this was followed by last years very tough middlesex prem. Also our grounds have been Victoria rec (surbiton) Thomas Wall aka fortress wall (rose hill) and now river lane as of last season.

As for playing in Fetcham the journey from croydon is a pain but the place is like a home now, but we did try to stay in sutton but the council were less than helpful i understand!

Yes we do have a club house which all the lads do hang around and use alot, in other years at sponsors pubs everyone did tend to scarper very quickly. As for old haunts we save them for long after the final whistle!!

not sure if its rented by the council.

Hopefully it is our future base as after the work we have done it really does feel like home now. and personally i would hate to ground share.

hopefully answered a few of your questions!!! and good luck to all on tomorrows games

thanks gertcha the feed back is welcome

so what sort of age are your players who were there at the start 25 perhaps now?

So river lane has a clubhouse bar etc. ( just making notes for the dorking game taxi or drive)

And the club needs to be sure ( it is no doubt) of its tenancy of river lane.

Im just being nosy, I think its a MVDC ground but Ive no idea who is the leaseholder and for how long. That could be very important one day.

how was the middlesex prem, fairly rough by all accounts?

I see in this weeks Dorking Advertiser that Fetcham have had their club-house 'condemmed' by M.V.D.C., and have had to move on.

More housing development after a year or so ?? cool

hello Dave,

ive had a little comment on the game this morning.

Coulsdon apparently have changed coach and most of the side recently and are on yesterdays showing a hardworking well drilled side.

They will finish much higher than their current 15th if they keep that side.

What your guys will need to learn is that you are no longer in the anonimity of junior/intermediate football and when the manager gets the phone call from the ad he has to be very careful what he says. The journalist is going to quote maybe tenpercent of what is said, and then there is a forum guy with a spoon to quote two lines from that tenpercent!

Coulsdon United or Netherne club are one of the clubs who are having to stay in Div 1 but are trying to make a decent fist of competing there, making improvements to their ground to allow youngsters to train , and running a community social club.

Its not all about promotion to Ryman and beyond.

Hi TSF

Glad our man let you off lightly yesterday, this thread was quite a topic of conversation at the club yesterday!!

That is such a good point you make about anonimity in the press, I guess we need to be draw a careful balance between putting the club out there (which obviously we need to do if we are to attract people to the club), and becoming a "rent-a-quote" club for the journalists (and obviously your good self!!).

In answer to some of your questions that Gertcha hasn't responded to yet, you are pretty much spot on with the average age - their are a few older heads around, but most of the lads would be mid 20's.

Yes, there is a bar and clubhouse - and you will be well looked after.

The good thing with the site we are on, is that there is a lot of space around, so we can develop as and when time requires.

I guess a good template for us to follow would be that of Corinthian Casuals, after all they were nomadic before they took over the ground in Tolworth, and had no real ties with the area - they have worked hard and now have a tidy little ground and have been established in the area for 20 odd years now (from what the ground was like when i started down there, to now is staggering) - and they have a Ryman side on their doorstep.

If we can emulate what they have done, we could be happy with our achievements.

I think its that fat bald git bjr. ban him.

to the guys at mvscr, I understand my comments caused a stir, as long as everyone knows what I actually said I will be more than happy to discuss face to face.

Thanks for the directions, the driver picking me up couldnt even find the turnoff the a23 and I had to stay in the clubhouse waiting for him with nothing to do but drink brandies. Had a great chat with the people there. It made me realize even more than before its not all about promotion and playing at a higher level, there are clubs doing great community work playing good football.

100 seats and floodlights in div1 ? Not needed for all, as long as maybe a third or half have the ability to get promoted its fine.

Can't understand why they don't have satnavs these days (even though I went the scenic route with mine!).
