There are 3 main ones Pers, The Evening Echo, Billericay Gazette and the Billericay and Havering Recorder. The Echo in my opinion is crap. Reports are done by Dick Marshall who has firmly fallen over into the Canvey side of the fence and hardly bothers watching Billericay anymore. Any quotes are taken from the Billericay Town-line and tonight for example, Gary Calders resignation was pushed to the side to make way for the kids cup finals at Roots Hall!. The Echo is a daily paper so would probably cost you a fortune. I'd plump for the Billericay Gazette (another paper that doesn't do us justice) but is written by Robbie Moore who does a good job on the match reports plus his other column. Beware though, you'll have to trudge your way through the table tennis and synchronised duck feeding reports to find it. The Recorder reports on loads of non-league clubs in the area, so doesn't soley focus on Billericay, but it does have excellent match reports.

Billericay Gazette is published once a week

Thanks for the advice! I of course visit the thisisessex-site, but I'm not to happy about the Billericay-covering on that site, and I want to get more info.

Think I'll go for the Gazette then, especially since Robert is writing there.

Thanks guys!

Dick Marshall has attended practically every home game this season and writes the only comprehensive and fair match reports. If the coverage in the local press sometimes seems less then enthusiastic (eg Yellow Advertiser) then you should ask the chairman about why he needs to be so abusive towards them.

Dick Marshalls a disgrace he should be netural towards all the Essex sides covered in the Echo rather than going on constaly about that crappy island. If you dont like his coverage like me dont buy it anymore in protest. Also we cant say that the Gazette is that good because it will never cirtsice the club or the board due its columns being written by Rob Moore and then probably having to be personally approved my Rod and before he left Gary

Sour Grapes I say - Dick Marshall just like any reporter will write the news according to the success at the time. Early last season most of the highlited reports found in the Echo revolved around Billericay FC because they were more successfull than Canvey at that time, Short memories. Canvey FC as awhole have had more high profile seasons in the last 10 years than the likes of Billericay FC, its a reporters job to write the most interesting storylines, what has been exciting about Billericay FC in recent years???

More people buy the Echo in C*nv*y than in Billericay. Therefore C*nv*y get more column inches than Billericay.

That said Dick Marshall does tend to focus on the negatives as far as Billericay are concerned. Every match report for the last two months of the season was largely taken up with saying how we'd let 6 first teamers go. Although true, saying it every week at the expense of actually writing about the match smacks of lazy journalism.

Getting back to the original point of PHB, the best reports are those in the Romford Recorder when they have a reporter at the game. Unfortunatley have a sports team of 3 journos who cover something like 12 teams so they're not always there.

The gazette is of course the only paper to feature in depth reports on away games. Very rare for the Echo or the recorder to travel to away games (although the recorder covers the Thurrockn clubs and Ford (and now Hornchurch).

You have just stated and proved my point Cum on Ricay, where were Canvey 10 Years ago,ESL, enough said, a journalists dream to write about a team who has ascended so fast. You see, a magnet, that had Dick not reported on, he would no doubt not be doing his bit today, its called doing the job!

If Billericay have a better season than Canvey or Grays or Purfleet etc next term, then Billericay will be the team Dick Marshall will be featuring.

Dick Marshall has'nt abandoned Billericay, clean up your own house, get some excitement going and your team will be featuring in the Echo and even the Nationals - just trying to be constructive chaps.
