LIVE COMMENTARY: MFC vs Staines Town .....

Robinson was slow in trying to get rid of the ball & that led to their first goal. Other than that he was fine.

No 4 (can someone tell me who this is please) was excellent. Put himself around, got stuck in & showed grit & determinaton. I think it was he who was unfortunate enough to see the ball rebound of his foot in the 6yd box only for one of their players to poke it into the net. (A)Unlucky or (B) not clearing his lines?. I'd side slightly with A). But overall he was giving it his all.Just lacks power in his shooting thats all.

He looks to be a big improvement to the squad & he reminded me a lot of Pat Sappleton.

The new guy up front(Heeley? Keeley?) did okay too & I'm sure we'll see better of him after a few more games.

On the downside,Aaron Quaine continues to disappoints me.

An even..ish first half. They had 3 chances to score & took two of them. We maybe had a similar amount of efforts on goal, though not as clear cut as theirs, but couldn't take any. On the balance of play though we certainly didn't deserve to go in at the break a couple or even 1 goal down.

Second half a much better effort all round. Just a shade more of the effort near the end & I reckon we could have sneaked a point.

Am not too down after today as a lot of positives came out of the game for me.

The number 4 was Jacob Erskin, played and scored against us for Maidstone last season, where he played as a striker.

Joe Healy was the striker, ex Millwall youngster, has been at Fisher more recently amongst other clubs.

Your entitled to your opinions, but i think naming players, and saying there this and that is very poor of you, players read these Forums, and your young players need you to support them, and not to publically slag them them off.

With regard to the first goal, I was standing close to the incident when it happened, as possibly Cookie was, and for me it was one of those incidents brought about by the rule that says goalkeepers cannot pickup back passes.

As far as I am concerned it is a silly rule; when many of the back passes are given to a goalkeeper they are given by a player under pressure and the goalkeeper, the only person allowed to handle the ball, is not allowed to pick it up. The goalkeeper himself is then put under pressure when often back passes come to him with the distinct chance of a mis-kick leading to the ball entering the net.

The sooner we get back to the situation where the goalkeeper is allowed to pick up back passes and only walk four paces without distributing the ball the fairer it will be to everyone in my opinion.

Re: IS' comments, players only get slated if they have a poor game. If they have a poor game, they deserve criticism. Likewise, if they have a good game, they get deserved praise. It's pretty simple really: if you can't handle criticism, either:

a) Don't read the forum

OR

B) Simply put in the effort which makes you exempt from criticism.

Ultimately, if you can't take the criticism, you probably shouldn't be playing football.

i thought the 2nd half was much better than the 2st for us. by the sounds of it, the new players in the squad (Savage, Erskine, Ohakam, Masade, Healey) were all pretty impressive. Mullin's penalty save kept us in the game, and wasnt that his 2nd penalty save out of 2 penalties? class act...

im extremely encouraged by yesterdays performance. it looks like we have a squad that can fight and potentially win more games than the team we've been playing in recent weeks...

i dont understand why Robinson was selected to play instead of Gregory. Gregs is a far better player, so thats a weird decision... other than that, and in spite of the scoreline, i think that was one of our best performances of this season so far, and we can only build on it. things are looking up for us now...

One thing that did worry me is that everytime I looked up Mullins seemed to be a long way out of his area and doesn't seem all that quick in getting back. I would like to see him stick to where he should be. He also seems to lack concerntration on ocassion, he still has a lot to prove for me, penaly save taken into consideration.

Have to agree that Quaine is still proving to be disappointing, this does not seem to go unoticed with TY as he spent a lot of the game shouting at him. He really needs to put more effort in.

I thought that Stubbs was outstanding when he came on. There are others that could take a leaf out of his book with his grit and determination. The way he struck the goal was with all of his heart. Well done Dan!!

All in all I think we were unlucky not to take a point from the game and walked away feeling positive about the future. I think we will do just enough to stay in it this season.

Up the Gate!!
