Calder Resigns

Message from Hornchurch Chat room

Here is the official scoop that will be unveiled tomorrow night when the Hornchurch staff come together for a meeting.

George Borg is the new first team coach, which virtually means he will run the show (MY OPINION not a good move he has never done anything but time will tell, he loves big strong battling players and no longer will we see any football played over at Hornchurch, it will be long ball football which spells the end for Crippsy,The Wee Man and Lowery.).

Chris Moore has gone back to Billericay and it is rumoured that Hornchurch will be getting Ollie Adadaji from Billericay. (MY OPINION great move becasue if we want to win it we need better than Mooro).

I wish The Urchins had stuck with what they had this year but they aint and now things will certainly change with Borg there.

This is now speculation but I can also see Paul Sutton and Peter Gredley losing the reserve team job to Gary Moulding and Glen Dyson (MY OPINION great shame because Paul/Peter have been fantastic for Hornchurch Football Club although if I was them I would quickly be applying for the vacant Aveley job as STeve Mosely has now been appointed manager of Chelmsford City and Paul Parker ha

Calder calls it a day at Billericay. Gary Calder's four-season reign as Billericay Town manager has come to an end following his weekend resignation.

Calder said: "I've enjoyed my time at New Lodge, but feel it's time for a change.

"Billericay have the public inquiry for the development of a new stadium in Basildon's Gloucester Park later in the year in partnership with Stadia Management and I believe the long-term future of the club could be very bright indeed.

"There's certainly no animosity regarding my departure and I wish everyone at New Lodge all the best for the future."

Notwithstanding that, Calder's resignation is no surprise.

After three years of consolidation under his managership -- the club were never out of the top nine in the Ryman Premier -- Billericay made their biggest ever financial budget available for the start of the season just finished.

However, they sold leading strikers Roy Essandoh and Martin Carthy to Premier rivals Grays at Christmas and chairman Rod Moore cut the playing cash available in the latter months of the season leading to six senior players departing.

Calder, although understanding the "business reasons" for the cuts, was desperately disappointed to see a side he felt were in with a real chance of glory cut to ribbons.

In fact, he earned the respect of many by the way he led a makeshift line-up through the closing weeks -- at one time putting together a three-match winning run which saw mighty Canvey among their scalps.

I saw that coming, at the start of the season, our team was one of the best in the league and we had a really strong chance of promotion. But it all fell apart.

Whats this about Ollie leaving, and us getting Mooro back? Ollie's ten times better than Moore, it would be a massive blow for the club.

Anyway, lets hope whoever Calder's replacement will be, he'll do us good.

I think the important thing is now to make a new appointment in good time so he's able to talk to as many of the current sqaud as possible. Not really surprised that Gary's gone, think his mind was made up before the end of the season.

There goes my hope that I could have a summer off thinking about football <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Well I'd like to thank Gary for his efforts as Billericay manager. It's been an up and down ride for him and he never got the consistency out of any of the teams he put together. Saying that he brought some good players to the club, Baker, Linger, Ollie, The Grahams, JJ to name a few. He could easily have walked at Xmas when the cut backs started but decided to stay and done a sterling job not only in putting out a side that could compete at this level, but one that turned round and spanked Canveys [****!!****] (had to get that one in somewhere!!). Good luck Gary, in whatever the future brings for you.

Not really a surprise, I think that after three years we had not progressed and possibly a new manager would have been required even if we did not have the money problems.

So what will remembered from the 'Calder years' mainly disappointment in the FA Cup when we got to the serious rounds. One good FA trophy run. But my main positive memory will be the last couple of months of the first season where we were playing excellent football and were winning consistently.

The worst memories are mainly from this season when we had the supposed 'better' players up until Christmas but we performed well below our ability.

id like to thank gary for his efforts, i think he has shown a lot of character in the last few months to stick it out..its also ironic that with the people moaning about always finishing 7 th no progress etc etc..i think 7 th is a position we would kill for next year.

now this getting scientific but if you divide the number of points we had by number of league games played before we started losing players (25th dec) and multiply by the total no of league games i reckon we would have ended up with 79 points which would have put us 3rd or 4th in the league which tells its own story (possibly)

having said that i do think things have reached a natural conclusion now and wish gary every success where ever he goes (except against us of course)

how about time Calder really what progrees has the club amde under him none, their was 1 good thorphy run that was it. His movtaional techniques were terrible such as i know i will transfer list the whole squad. Then theirs his management abilities or lack of them

Should try and get morro back but not at that cost

Not that surprising, he resigned from us when we announced we were leaving Southbury Road, plus he probably feels he's taken BTFC as far as he can go. still a good manager though, I'd like him back.

I'm in at last.....Bloody PC crashing....

I wish Gary Calder all the best. I can remember a wet and cold evening at Rushdons ground (cardboard cutout supporters!!!), his first season with us, FA Trophy 1/4 finals. Okay we lost but it was great to even get that far. And on the way there, beating Hereford (who were tearing up some league teams in the FA cup)...Ahhhhhh, heady Calder Days.....

It'll be curlish for anyone to remember the not so heady moments as he has now resigned, it is all in the past.

Good luck for the future Gary, best wishes.

Good luck to Gary.

Hopefully a new manager will mean a fresh start for the club (come on lets be optimistic!), I would hope that whoever comes in sorts out getting the senior players like JJ, Ollie, Russ, Wallo, and Ansell to stay. Maybe a new man could motivate Ritchie Graham back to his best.

I dont see this as a bad thing for the club or for Calder. I think he did gain respect from alot of people for the way the team battled on at the end of the season. The club can only benefit from a fresh face (paul parker maybe?) although if the rumour that calder payed the wages is true would another manager take this action? what would have happened had calder not payed?

only 12 more saturdays until the new season!!!
