Yeah...when others struggled with injuries and suspensions. They just poached players for a few pennies a week and drafted in players on loan.

Only if a player is on contract...no player would be silly enough to sign a contract unless worthwhile to them.

 

If you want to sign a player from another clun (within the league and Ryman leagues) the standard practice is a 7-dayer. The club contacts the club where the player is based, after 7 days they can approach that player if prior permission was not granted.

 

Certain clubs (no names but usually teams with money) tap players up beforehand anyways

As it happens Basildon Council did offer Basildon United a plot of land next door to Bowers ground for a new stadium site.

A town the size of Basildon should have a club at a much higher level of senior football. I can see one day a franchise type club coming into Basildon claiming the territory and the real Bas will be lost forever (similar to MK Dons & Milton Keynes City). Southend nearly went there a few years back. Perhaps Basildon Orient.
