EFM - SS

Recommended Posts

Last night, the annual Steve Clark Trophy match between EFM and Saints Supporters was held at London Colney FC (much thanks to them for that).

EFM very much dominated the first half whilst restricting SS to two shots on goal. EFM had big appeals for a penalty or a sending off when Dave Ashley was brought down when clean through on goal, but in the end a free kick was given just outside the box, which came to nothing. On 44 minutes, SS's first corner of the game was headed clear by GHA, only to be returned into the box where [some SS player] (apologies, I do not know who) turned and sent the ball past Trevinho in the EFM goal, to give SS an undeserved 1-0 lead at half time.

The second half went much the same way as the first, with EFM unable to capitalise on their dominance. The referee (who took a liking to Ben Griffiths) did not help, and after around 70 minutes a corner swung in was headed home by Dave Saint at the back post, although appeals for climbing by Saint on Rob (Ashley?) went unheard by the ref. Minutes from the end a swift breakaway by SS ended with Dave Saint slotting the ball past Deano in the EFM goal for his second (maybe third??) goal of the match, to seal a 3-0 victory for SS.

A good match, shame about the result, it was much closer than the scoreline suggests. I have a feeling that the London Colney bar takings were quite high yesterday...shame that the match didn't take place but what can you do. Roll on next year!!

And for getting into the VIP area of batchwood by saying he was in the Bill.

I was just happy to get into the club.

Top night, we really should of won the game, SS were all home by 10pm while EFM took over the bar until 11.30 before taking on batchwood until 3am

Once again EFM drink for England.

Where was Zeal????? EFM don't have headaches, and we do get excited over a drinking session!

First, thanks for the game as ever, though I really can't agree with your view that you dominated both halves.

SS started poorly, and your assessment of the first half isn't far off. Couldn't see whether it was a penalty or not, though the referee's always right, I'm told, so it must have been a free kick on the edge of the box. I thought we shaded it second half. You had a lot of the ball, but we restricted you to just a couple of chances although, you're right, 3-0 in the end was a bit flattering. Oh, and Sainty's been getting away with those shoves in the back for years.

Nice bar, though. Not been in there before.

We didn't dominate the second half as much as the first, and yes, 3-0 was a bit (just a bit???) flattering. I'll agree with you there.

The bar was nice, yes. One would have preferred the City clubhouse, and pitch come to think of it, but as an older and wiser man once said, don't let next season's kit stand in the way of your morals and principles.

Err....

I think that should be "Don't let principles stand in the way of next season's kit", GHA.

Well done on the Moderator thing. Any chance that you could sort out my bold stuff?

Hi Hertsblue.

Never been in the London Colney clubhouse, HB? You missed last season's friendly over there then. Any chance you can make the pre-season games this Summer?

You missed a couple at the end of the season, too, as I recall. Who did the £1000 team sheet walk in your absence?

AFF, didn't really how much I'd miss the banter when the season finally came to a close. Roll on next year, I say.

Did go to the the Colney friendly last year, but had to head off straight after. So many people to see. So little time. You know how it is. And yes, I was reduced to watching Exeter City die a slow painful death over the last couple of weeks of the season. But I'll be back, refreshed and raring to go, come July (it is July isn't it?).

And to be fair to our lads, we weren't home by 10, just holed up in the Tudor, and then for the some of us the Adelaide (heard that mere mortals without tickets wetre queueing until the earlier hours up the road, and didn't think it was worth it...).
