Wage Capping

Recommended Posts

It seems that the Conference are to introduce wage capping from next season which means that the amount that a club can pay it's players will be related to it's turnover.

All the more reason to get more through the gates then.

Dave,

This is interesting as it could level the playing field between the clubs so that real levels of support are reflected in spending. Do we have any more details? Will this have any effect on what any money raised through the pledge or supporters' trust can be used for?

I'm not so sure, because the Leighs and Margates ( tongue.gif ) of this world would still not be able to pay wages that, say, Stevenage or Chester could afford and there'd still be a 'them and us' scenario.

Mind you, Canvey'd be screwed!

I don't know until we get some details published. But if we can't spend money on players, we can always spend it on the ground

Point taken, Stu M......but at least it might deal with clubs with very little real support being artificially boosted up the table by rich benefactors. I've no objection to the bigger clubs with real grassroots support. Incidentally, apart from my previous question concerning the pledge and supporters' trust, how does any TV money come into this? If coverage isn't more evenly spread, won't that be distorting the way the league works in the same way as any other rich benefactor?

I agree that there is a sort of moral case for those clubs with genuine grassroots support to do well, but would any of us really mind if a rich benefactor came to fleet and delivered results/success which in turn produced higher gates.

I love the close nit atmosphere at Fleet and will always enjoy exchanging tales of dreary outings to Eastbourne the like - but I wouldn't object to a large cash injection resulting in football league status, or dare I dream of LDV Vans success grin.gif

If we had to play in Chatham for a season I wonder what size crowd we would get, Margates fans obviously weren't willing to make the trip to Dover, once they get Hartsdown sorted out their gates will soon return to 1400 to 1500.

If we can average 1500 next season I'm sure we would all see that as a step in the right direction. Margate averaged 685 this year playing at Dover...at the start of last season we would have been pleased with that in the Rymans.
