Where did you get the info about the Southern Comb Cup mate?

Its been in recent CCL Bulletins and appeared on Mitoo - is also on the Curfews own site in the 'Fixtures calendar' for tonight.

 

Think the match was scheduled for a week or so back but Reading Town were already playing at Highworth in the Hellenic Floodlit Trophy.

 

Must admit its not the best publicized Competition and not everyone entering seems to try that hard - the Final from last season was held over to August.

Took some digging but found some info at last - like I said not well publicized.

 

Final was eventually played on 9th August 2008 between Chipstead and Ashford Town (Middx) @ High Rd Chipstead.

Oh - forgot to mention: Merstham went out to Molesey on pens in the equivalent of the Quarter Finals on 10th April 2008.

Yeah I checked tonight. Reason I didn't know about it was because we apparently played our youth side!

Right better mention this now before Duncs and JJ come on. Cove beat Merstham 3-2 in the Southern Combination Cup tonight. Reasons? They were really up for it and played pretty well, we were poor and the lino didn't want to give a stonewall penalty against his mates!

 

Anyway, fair play to Cove, they have a few decent players down there this season. No, I don't mean Johno.

 

Good luck to them in the next round.

Love the comment about the mates part...very funny!!

 

It did look like a pen but i think if the ball hadnt been kicked 20yds off the pitch by the time there was contact he would have given it. It was so close to the by-line that it was probably hard to give.

 

Lets be honest Bomaya....the ref and lino's were not very good tonight......for both teams. Eg: the freekick for you on the edge of the box that was never a foul in a month of sundays!!

 

Glad you liked the food.....

 

Spoke to a couple of the Merstham lads after the game and they were very gracious in defeat.

 

I certainly wish the best to Merstham for the rest of the season........

Yeah, fair enough, you certainly didn't deserve to lose especially on the first half performance.

 

The refs were pretty awful for both sides but the trouble is the penalty is such a bigger decision compared to a free kick 25 yards out.

 

As for the mates comment, I wasn't joking! The lino on that side seemed to know all the Cove fans on the sideline and then was laughing with the Cove players in the bar afterwards.

 

Anyway, no hard feelings.

I didnt know the lino on that side and as for him chatting and laughing with the players in the bar - i very much doubt it as only 3 players came in the bar after the game!!

This i was not happy with!!

 

Fines all round for the no shows in the bar!!

I must admit i've never seen the lino before either jonno,very good game and could have swung either way,I must say if the desicion not to award the penalty had been against us I would not have been pleased (to say the least).When Merstham got back to 2 2 we showed a lot of character and proved again how resiliant we are,another very tough game this saturday at Ash, and I wont be around as I am going to Weymouth for a long weekend (I must be getting old)
