Have Baldock Town and Letchworth Town now amalgamated?

No. This is not the same Baldock Town that used to play in the Southern League. They are an unconnected junior club that happened to use the same name but never played at the "senior" Baldock Town's ground in Norton Road. They became a senior club themselves and joined the SSML last year and now play home games at the County Ground in Letchworth so they decided to add the Letchworth suffix to their name this season so that people would be more aware of where they are based.

Do Letchworth Garden City still exist. I remember watching them play first leg of the East Anglian Cup Final at Hornchurch in the late 70's during the powercuts. The main reason for going was to see the great Robin Chandler turning out for Letchworth. Anyway Tony Wimpory put Urchins 2-1 up with about 10 mins to go when Jim Callaghan turned lights off. I remember waiting in the old bar lit by candles for the game to restart, drinking bottled light ale as the pumps were disabled by the power cut. I think the game was abandoned.

No, they folded the Friday night before Potters Bar Town were due to play them at home on the Saturday afternoon back in 2002/3. We claimed the expenses we had already laid out for the game from the Herts FA and they said they would issue a shared sine die suspension (i.e. every registered player is suspended until the club pays up the debt). However, the SSML refused to give a list of the players to the Herts FA as they felt it would breach the Data Protection Act and nothing ever happened!

They had dropped the "Garden City" bit by the time they folded and were plain old Letchworth FC. There is a youth set up called Lethworth Garden City Eagles FC who have dipped their toes in the world of senior adult football this season and play in the Herts County League on a pitch adjacent to (but not part of) the County FA ground.

So the trophy IS worthwhile then although I presume that it doesn't cover the whole country as the Vase does.

Just as a matter of interest, what geographical area does the ART cover and are there other such trophies covering other parts of the country?

Pre the FA restructure of the pyramid, the competition was open to any side not in the FA Vase who competed in the Isthmian part of the pyramid, i.e. the main Isthmian feeders (Essex, SSML & CCL) plus the leagues that fed into those (e.g. Essex Olympian, Herts County, the old Surrey County, etc.). I guess the same catchment rules apply now but could theoretically include Southern League feeeders such as any Eastern Counties sides not in the Vase, Essex & Suffolk Border sides, etc.

Basically, it is more or less a Home Counties Competition although, once upon a time, the FA were said to be keeping an eye on it with a view to possibly expanding it nationwide as a sort of modern day FA Amateur Cup. Don't know if that's still the case as I don't keep as close a tab on this competition as I used to.
