At last someone has mentioned Gordon Wallace. If a consortium of people including Wallace were interested in buying the club, would Piper sell. The big fat answer is NO (IMO). Should GW be interested and was successful in buying the club, it would be the best thing that could ever happen to Margate Football Club.

Why then are plans forever being submitted, then re-submitted, then revised, then down graded (this is really the term that I don't like) then we're waiting for applications etc, etc...Every season it's the pitch needs to be turned so many degrees or the legendary an announcement will be made shortly [****!!****]. If everything is in order just build the poxy thing and we'll all be happy. F()cking simple innit?

How i see things is that the club keep on changing the plans to something that is cheaper, because they can't get the backers to help fund the stadium and they tell us that there will be an anouncement in the near future to shut us up about it for a little while. It seems all they do is draw pictures of what they want it to look like but never do the important work and probably don't know how to do it properly. If they did we would have a stadium now.

if they want to do something cheaper, just build a few flipping stands! its this whole medical centre and driving school (and wasnt it the casino and hotel in the very first plan?) that is casuing the trouble. we cant afford these things, so scrap them. if we get money, make them in a few years time...

One could ask of course but to look at the High Street and sea front it would appear that a new football ground to a lot of people in Margate won't come that high on a list of priorities.

And this comes from an exile who still loves the place.

But it is the development that has f()cked everything up in the first instance. A few years back we were the top semi pro team in the country, seven places from the football league and scoring eight in our final league game. Did we need a medi centre then to achieve what we did, did we [****!!****]. Someone saw a money making opportunity in the form of hotel/casino development and to keep the fans happy there was the promise of a new stadium lol lol lol!
All that has changed is that it's now a medi centre instead of hotel and still no new stadium proving that the football club is last on a developers priorities.
So rather than the development underpinning the future of the club it is in fact what has ruined the club.

Ok Bob I respect your opinion but only time will tell if this helps us or hinders us. If you are right I will be the first to acknowlege it but I sincerely hope you are way of the mark.

Bob, you are correct. Any development of the ground should have been one stand at a time. Some people's vanity got the better of them.

However, I will say that if you are going to build a new ground a medical centre is a good idea. In the current economic climate you can't really expect private developers to put up much cash, however a medical centre would unlock all sorts of aid from the public sector which, even in a recession, is a bottomless pit.

To be fair, though, we are talking two different operations here aren't we?

You can't really expect public money to fund the football club via the Medical Centre. Now if the football club can obtain public support by becoming a community resource, which at times it seems they are attempting, that is a different matter.

Sadly it could be some while before we get back to being in the top eight semi pro teams (considering that much of the Conference is pro anyway) so it looks as though the community aspect is going to be the way.

I have to say from a personal point I would dearly love to see MFC back as one of the top non-league teams - that is what it is all about, with the community aspect as a strong link.
