manager

Was Jimmy Howard not involved in some way with Watford reserves and he was the worst manager we have had in my experience. Jimmy Neighbour was nearly as bad previously in charge of Spurs youth team and had a good playing career behind him but comes in second to Mr Howard.

Garry Hill was involved in sunday morning football before coming to us via Heybridge and would be my pick of the managers I have seen in my time.

Who can tell what makes a good manager before he is tested. Would Gibbs not be stepping down in terms of standard and pay in any case making the prospect even less likely.

As GHA says, we have a manager, why not tout him for the Fulham job. Or you could always support him and so the club.

personally i was thinking more on the lines of Martin o'Neill but there you go

are you doubting my support for the club?

'course it would be a step down temporarily, but equally are you saying you have no ambition,

do you believe that Mr. cook has the backing of the players, the last 5 months have seen city play teams off the park with lovely one touch football

will we be up amongst next season with the current level of skill and attitude

and finally Im guessing that the club pays your wages in some sort of capacity?

Calling for the Manager's head with the season just ended does not suggest that you do wholly support the entire club does it.

Incidentally, Martin O'Neil started at Grantham and worked his way up which would seem the natural course of events.

Your middle paragraph is somewhat garbled so I cannot offer a full response. However, why would anyone like Gibbs, who is about 38, probably has a wife and children, the small hinderance of a mortgage want to take pay cuts to serve his ambition by moving down the leagues when winning the reserve league puts him firmly in the 'shop window' for bigger and better things anyway. How long before he gets the chance of the top job at WFC? You presume two things, 1) that it makes economic sense for him, or anyone else in a similar position, to take a pay cut and 2) it makes economic and football sense for the club to employ someone out of the pro game. Check Peter Shreeves record at Barnet.

And no, I do not get paid by the club so that guess was as incorrect as the rest of your opinion was absurd.

Hmmnn.

ESG and I have a small difference of opinion from the past between us Wilf, but football is all about opinions. Well, it's about two opposing teams of 11 players trying to get an odd shaped ball into a net thing actually, but you know what I mean.

I agree with you Wilf, but to the extent that someone in Nigel Gibbs position is unlikely to be attracted to the Saints and that success in the 'pro game' is not guaranteed to bring success at Non League level.

As far as criticism of the Manager is concerned, I have noted the limited comments on here over the past couple of weeks or so in view of the rubbish that we have had to endure since Christmas and during the past month in particular. Something has been badly wrong on the pitch and the players, coach[es] and Manager must share the blame, not necessarily in equal measure, of course. It must be sorted out for the start of next season, for sure.

Your suggestion that criticism of the manager shows lack of support for the Club is, in my view, absurd. Suppose that you had seen/heard some of the things that Gibbo had seen/heard [whatever they were] and you had come on here in the week prior to December 21st 2002 criticising Gary Roberts. Would that be showing a lack of support for the Club?

Who said "In 1985, blind faith in your leaders, or in anything, will get you killed"?

One more thing Wilf. You're not Steve Cook are you? If so, take a tip from me. Stick with 4-4-2.

Opinions Wilf. Opinions.

wil wilf wilf

once you settled back in your pram

I was merely offering an opinion on who I (thats an uppercase I in bold 78pt if need be) would like to see as manager

and the Martin o'Neil example I gave, as you say so yourself was obviously a good one

gibbs, 37, wife 2.4 kids

i doubt very much has a mortgage, and how do you know what he does or doesn't want

you keep throwing examples Shreeves , Neighbour, to justify your arguement

equally as many "names" started off in non league to go on to bigger and better things

and i can only call it as i see it and yes i have seen a lot of games since Christmas, maybe i must have missed the good ones

so you work for the club for nothing then? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

toodle pip treacle, now do I renew my ST or not?

Excuse me for butting in, but if your not happy with what's happening on the pitch- it's your duty as a supporter to make that known. What's the alternative- allow a guy to stay in charge who then gets you relegated ,and then the chairman says- "Well we didn't sack him because the fans seemed happy"?

You may read between the lines if you wish.
