Surrey Premier Cup 2nd Round.

Knaphill 1-3 Leatherhead Reserves (played @ Leatherhead)

'Twas a cold and misty evening down on the banks of the River Mole. The mark of history hung over the game as it was the first time The Knappers had played against a Ryman League side (abeit the reserves). The game started with The Knappers once agin short on numbers as injuries and work commitments took their toll. Star striker Matt Baker started with only one good leg and a number of others were carry knocks. The first half was uneventful with both sides lacking a killer punch and as the mist swirled around the ground the first half ended all sqaure.

The second half began in even thicker mist and on the hour, a swinging cross from Gary Campbell emerged out of the mist from the far right flank, and looking for all intents and purposes to drift behind for a goalkick. The Leatherhead keeper suddenly became very excited and tried to palm the ball away as the trajectory took the ball over his head and into the far corner!

Oh dear, I think we might have upset our hosts. They stormed back and within 7 minutes had drawn level as one of their players (difficult to recognise in the mist) strolled from the half way line to the edge of the box and unleasead an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner. With their danders well and truly up, Leatherhead pushed forward and a second was almost inevitable, a through ball by-passed the entire Knaphill defence and despite a valiant effort from Kris Hatton in the Knaphill goal, a second goal was scored. With time running out and with Matt Baker reduced to a standing role a switch of goalkeeprs was made to stunning effect. Another Leatherhead through ball and another goal as the ball nestled in the far corner.

The final whistle blew to end another piece of Knaphill history; a defeat, but our lads can hold their heads high playing against a talented and youthful Leatherhead Reserves. We wish them all the best for the rest of the competition.

Knaphill travel to Buckinghamshire on the 15th Novemeber to play in the Anagram Trophy and set another first, travelling nearly 70 miles, by coach no less, to face Padbury United from The Molten Spartan South Midlands Football League Division 2.

COME ON YOU KNAPPERS!!!!

PS Good luck to the lads for the trip to Worcester Park on Saturday!

Did Alex Croxford score in your first game of the season? Or was it Scott Holman playing under his name as he had not signed on by then?

Tut Tut. They won their first game of the season too. This should be reported to RPV, SL, Cheating should be punished, if its true of course!

I think regardless RPV were terrible first game of the season against them, although since then the club has pushed in the right direction.

Not happy if they did play a 'ringer' but that's the sort of thing we compete against at RPV, everything has to be done the harder, more difficult way! A bit of luck would be nice too.
