Slough vs AFC Hayes

I agree with almost every word of that post Wiz. The only thing I would say is that Calvin Maye does shout and scream but seems to be ignored by the players. Today I was walking passed the dugout when Durrant had the ball and Calvin was screaming at him to travel with the ball and he immediately hacked it forward and out of play. Calvin looked disgusted and Platty turned around and said "You had 20 yards of space."

That said I think Durrant is carrying an injury.

RWG, I don't think cutting back on the squad is the answer because, not sure if your aware, the players are on a pay as you play basis. If you are sub and you don't come on you get payed nothing. If they come on as a sub before, say, 65 minutes they get payed and if they come on after about the 65 minute mark they either get reduced pay or nothing (not quite sure which).

I think it's purely down to the formation Sweetman keeps trying to play. He seems to be trying to keep certain players happy to the detriment of the team i.e. playing 3 centre backs when 2 should suffice. Playing 3 up front, looks good going forward but vulnerable to the quick counter attack when we are only playing Pritchard, Fermie(not the quickest of players) and Bubb(a bit lightweight) in midfield.

I'm convinced we have the right players if played in the right formation and that will mean Sweetman having to bench some of his seemingly favourite players for the benefit of the team.

Completely not worth the 100 mile round trip

Played the long ball game too much, gave the ball away too much, especially in front of our own goal.

Anyway, once I've gone through my photos, I may have one or two that I can post up. Probably by Thursday.

Let's hope that Thursday's training session is a good one, and the team can come out fighting on Saturday.

Sweetman stunned by defeat - Slough Observer

Football - Slough Town 2-3 AFC Hayes

Slough Town manager Derek Sweetman has admitted he was "stunned" by last night's 3-2 home defeat to AFC Hayes.

Two excellent goals from the visitors' Trevor Charlery gave his side a 2-0 lead after 49 minutes, before a Nick Turner own goal got Slough back into the game.

But it was 3-1 to AFC Hayes after 72 minutes when Dean Papali scored, and a late Dean Harper finish was of little consolation to the hosts.

Reading rebel if that above is true, then money or no money thats a ridiculous way to run a senior football team.No wonder some of them are not trying much.

As for the article in the observer-that is not the first time sweetman has said that, about his hand picked players !

Also must agree that 4-4-2 would be his best option with what he's got-but i still say he lacks so much as a manager and its reflected in the teams displays-I am not advocating change for change sake-but everyone on here can see the problems-and have you noticed they are getting worse the more games we play.

RWG Wiz: i know we have had our differences but i must say that i have to agree with you on this one. I was there last night and that was a shocking performance against a team which had shipped 33 goals in 11 games before last night. To me, a lot of the Slough players (with the exception of Romeo) where playing at half pace. Is this down to motivation by management of lack of desire. AFC Hayes were more up for it and deserved their win.

Spot on.

What worries me is the alarmingly lack of consistency. Against Truro we played high tempo attacking football, yes we were shaky at the back but we looked very good going forward and were all over them when they were in possession of the ball. The exact opposite last night. We were gifted the goals although it was good play by Platt to force the own goal.

Very worrying and we now have three massive games coming up. I was expecting a big haul of points from these games including last nights and now it will be an uphill task.

Three wins on the bounce needed - come on Rebels.

Very disappointing performance, especially the way the players heads dropped when we went behind--that was something we seemed to have sorted out earlier on in the season. After the opening goal our game disintegrated with some abysmal passing. By the end of the game Sweetman was certainly coming in for a lot of criticism frpm the supporters who, I sense, feel has been given enough time to sort things out.

DJ was certainly missed up front as there was nobody to hold the ball up, and while I felt Pritchard battled hard, he was on his own, and consequently had no space or time to run things.

Individually our players are certainly better than last year, but unless they start producing the goods, we will be in another relegation fight. The next few games will be crucial. A couple of more performances like last night and RWG will have been proved right.

If you think that formation is not the problem then why are Pritchard and Fermie getting over-run in midfield and being made to look ordinary which subsequently is putting the defence under continual pressure?

Why are the two wing-backs not bombing down the line and slinging over crosses for the forwards to get on to?

The problem is that the players we have cannot do the job that is required in that type of formation.

As for fitness, we are x amount of games into the season, we are supposed to have an excellent coach who takes training twice a week, so why are we less fitter than other teams?

As a suggestion, perhaps we have players playing in certain positions, who have ability, but are not the quickest around the pitch so instead of making them fit a certain formation why not make the formation fit the players that we have got?

As for confidence, we had plenty when we won 3 games on the trot and then drew with Truro, so why no confidence now?

Thoroughly depressed this morning, i came to the game last night with high expectations of a win or at least a decent performance against a hayes side that were second bottom and weak defensively.

To put it mildly last nights performance was a piss take how any player bar jacko in goal can get paid for last night is beyond me.

To me there are far too many players who just see it as turning up and getting there expenses for an easy life and play well here and there to keep people happy.

I would rather see our youth team or those players who havent been given a chance play, i would rather see us play with guts and passion and get beat.

And the excuses!! im another one who disagreed with RWG in the past but i have to admit it looks like he is right, maybe it is to do with him being around a long time and seen it all.

The coaching if you can call it that is not up to standard neither is the tactics or game plan. I think the windsor manager was mentioned before if you go along and see windsor you will see him coaching and the way he motivates his players to do what he wants them to do. The random shouting of seconds or hold the line is nothing, i can do that.

Standing next to the hayes bench it was interesting to see their manager Joe mitchell and how he was talking to his players, i think hes been their about five years, has to be working on a low budget and yet to see him the passion and drive was impressive, yes they wanted it and good luck to them.

We maybe have to ask do we want management who are basically nice people or do we want people who know their job, ok people were saying they dont like mudge but one thing for sure he knows how to give a bollocking and get the best out of players.

On the hayes side their number 11 looked quality, rang rings around durrant,ok someone said he was carrying an injury, well why play players who are not fit.

On the subject of young players Atrell should be playing every week if able. even for a small guy he isnt afraid of the tackle.

I took a wander around the ground last night and it was sad to see the disappointment on the faces of so many supporters, although for some it was laughable how we played and they saw humour in it i suppose but they were disappointed and fairly unimpressed even when we scored, too little too late.Even though i have a season ticket im seriously considering whether to go saturday or not.

Sorry to waffle on , Rant over.

I don't particularly want us to be one of those clubs that changes their manager every five minutes. It does nothing for continuity and building a team, and we've had quite a few now over the last few seasons.

However, I may just be one of those calling for change if things don't get better very soon. As I've said before, if we have ambitions of doing anything this season, we really need to have a good November, which in my opinion contains a lot games against teams around or below us in the table - the kind of games you really have to be winning. With the possible exception of AFC Totton, we should have been looking to go unbeaten this month, but alas we've already lost two games and I think we're underachieving massively.

We've not played that well this season with an increased budget, and the potential is there in the team, but the talk of changing the manager at this stage is not right in my opinion.

A lot of people have mentioned Keith Scott as an example, but what experience does Keith have that Derek does not? Keith's manager Leighton and Windsor and done well, but he had a tricky spell at the start of his career at Windsor and has not managed at this level for too long, whereas Derek has been around this level for years now and knows this league better than Keith.

As for the AFC winger. I was told last night he was on contract at AFC Hayes!
