from todays echo

right i dont really want to get involved with this as im more interested in tonights clapton match and saturdays derby match and im keeping a low profile for a while but this comes from todays echo concerning saturdays postponement 'Basildon United fc were suspended by the essex county fa due to outstanding monies. we were not able to lift this suspension until the required amount was received in cash, which finally occured at 5.35pm on Friday evening' an essex fa spokesman told the echo.

'by this time the essex senior league had cancelled their fixture for the weekend'.

'as this money has now been received, there is no problem as far as the essex county fa are concerned with basildon united fufilling their fixtures'.

so in other words saturdays match was postponed because certain jobsworths werent prepared to show an ounce of common sense, nevermind basildon, this will also mean that burnham players and staff now face a midweek trip and all the extra expense and inconvenience that involves.Fecking shocking!!

To be fair, If the game was called off....it is a little unfair to expect Burnham staff, players and fans to cancel any new plans and play the match. Ecspecially at no fault of their own.

Sureley this could have been resolved earlier in the week and not less than 24 hours before the match!

I have no axe to grind here but why blame County or the ESL for the repurcussions?

If a club doesn't pay its fines, it can only end up one way - suspension sine die for the club and its registered players until the fine is paid.

There is only one party to blame here.

ok then fine the club but my point is that by postponing the match everyone suffers including supporters and burnham. 22 players were ready to play on saturday and 60 odd supporters ready to attend the match, sorry but at the end of the day it reflects badly on the league as well as basildon.how comes the ridgeons league never seems to have these problems. at the end of the day such punishments are counter productive, no one gains from these situations.

My recollection is that if a fine is not paid by a certain time, it doubles and if the next deadline is not met, it doubles again up to a point where if the final deadline is not met, (eg midnight on a particular day) the defaulting club are suspended sine die. These are the rules.

The Essex Senior League are not at fault, they are reacting to an edict by County. You may remember that the London FA suspended Clapton a couple of times a season or two back for non payment of fines. These were swiftly paid once the suspensions swung in but it was too late and games were postponed as a result. This resulted in a

Gosh! Bas have had a flying start to their season so it's a shame that this has happened, for whatever reason. Be it illness to voluntary staff who have the responsibility for ensuring the paperwork is done or a misunderstanding. It's hardly likely to be done on purpose and it's an expensive lesson to learn.

Good luck tonight the Bees cheerleader
