I see that the so called Dynamic Duo are all over the Welwyn & Hatfield Times like a rash today with a picture to no doubt adorn Bilbo and Oracle's bedroom walls:

Rhodent, you must be really mad that the Dynamic Duo have achieved all they said they would this season and basically answered all your inane criticisms of them on the football field.

Oh, and also shot all your predictions out of the window.

With players queuing up to join the Citizens next season its all systems got at Herns Lane.

Bilbo - I still don't believe that Del and Steve will be at Herns Lane next season but I'll be happy to be proved wrong.

I never denied that they had done an excellent job this season however I don't feel Paul Tompkins was given sufficient time and he would have most certainly turned things around probably finishing in the same position.

Bilbo - I've never been more serious in my life, Paul triggered my 360 degrees comment when I actually meant 180 however he had already turned things on their head at Herns Lane when he prematurely severed ties with the Club and would have finished at least eleventh if not higher.

That is the biggest load of tosh you've ever written! Hertford visited Herns Lane during that gentleman's tenure, and recorded their biggest win of the season, despite being in turmoil themselves. WGC were worse than poor. 360 degrees was in fact correct.

Hi Horace

You are right, Rhodes is talking rubbish again. 5-0 was a trouncing and they were beaten the week before 7-0 again at home against Biggleswade Town.

In fact the whole league campaign was a disaster before Del took over. Played 14 won 3 drawn 2 lost 9, goals for 21, goals against 46, difference -25, 11 points and bottom of the league, even the players had no faith and wouldn

Oracle - Paul Tompkins was working with one arm tied behind his back at Herns Lane but was still doing an amazing job, take some of his results in September for example, shortly before he severed ties with the Club, which included 3-2 and 4-0 home wins over Brimsdown Rovers and Berkhamsted and a 3-3 draw at Cockfosters.

Conrad - What's that supposed to mean, if it's a reference to Paul Tompkins I followed his progress closely at Herns Lane as I rate him highly as a Coach and Manager and what he did there with the resources available to him, or should I say the lack of them, was nothing short of Harry Redknapp proportions at Spurs. When he left through sheer frustration Del and Steve came in and ended up taking all the credit for Paul's work and the foundations he laid.

Rhodes, perhaps you can tell me what resources were available to Del and Steve when they took over that had not been available to Mr Tomkins at Herns Lane, other than their undeniable talent and will to win of course.

I am sure Paul tried his best and I know he wasn't in charge from the start of the season but 2 wins in 14 is not a recipe for success. The club was in a right shambles when the Dynamic Duo took over, but they were able to turn the club around, assemble a squad of talented players and together they achieved great success.

Nothing you can say can take away what the boys achieved from the position that was left to them when they took over at Herns Lane, no players, 11 points and bottom of the league!

Incidently, what Club is Mr Tomkins Managing now?

Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division

Welwyn Garden City 0 Hertford Town 5

John Hutchinson reports from Herns Lane

WGC suffered yet another heavy defeat as they were hammered 5-0 at home to derby rivals Hertford Town on Saturday.

The Citizens have now conceded 12 goals in their last two games.

Speaking after the game, new manager Paul Tomkins said: "It was a much-improved performance from Tuesday's nights 7-0 defeat to Biggleswade Town.

Ouch !

FA Vase First Round Qualifying

Welwyn Garden City 1 Daventry Town 6

John Hutchinson reports from Herns Lane

TEN-man WGC are out of the FA Vase after a crushing 6-1 defeat to Daventry Town on Saturday. The Citizens were always likely to be up against it, facing a side who like to play passing football and who lost only once last season in Division One of the United Counties League.

And the job became even harder prior to kick-off when a new goalkeeper just signed by manager Paul Tomkins failed to turn up, and midfielder Matt McArdle was forced to don the gloves.

Are you beginning to get the picture ?

CITY manager Del Deanus was a happy man after seeing his side secure a top-half finish in the Premier Division of the South Midlands Football League.

Saturday's 4-1 home win against Oxhey Jets secured the Citizens ninth spot in the standings - achieving Deanus' aim since he took the reins at Herns Lane.

"When we came to the club, we said we could finish in the top half because we knew the quality we were bringing in.

"To be honest, it's just frustrating now as we don't want the season to end.

"When we came to the club, we were told we were in a relegation battle.

"But we knew we would finish well above the bottom sides."

There has certainly been a rapid turnaround in fortunes at Herns Lane since 'Dynamic Duo' Deanus and joint-manager Steve Newing took over.

Following the early season departure of Paul Tomkins as manager, Deanus and Newing have guided their side to 16 wins from 27 games.

And relax ...

Conrad - I don't know who you are but why are you trying to paint Paul Tompkins in a bad light, he's a great Coach and Manager and didn't have the tools of the trade to work with at Herns Lane, Del and Steve banged the table when they arrived and the Chairman jumped to their tune but that's not Paul's style, he just gets on with things without making a song and dance.

sometimes in life people make judgements on subjects and dont know the 100% facts...........i for one know that PT worked his backside off trying to sort things out at WGC.......it was just a case of the wrong things happening at the wrong time.........i think PT could have finished midtable easy with some of the lads he had there.

Monkeymonkey8 - This is a great post and music to my ears, as you suggest sometimes Oracle and Bilbo simply post without engaging their brain as they are so blinkered when it comes to their heroes, the so called Dynamic Duo. I'll be surprised if they have ever met Paul Tompkins because if they had they will know he's the genuine article, far more so than Del and Steve will ever be, my own impression of Del and Steve is that, with respect, they are 'mavericks' who act on impulse and go with the wind, if they had a big disagreement with the Chairman at Herns Lane tomorrow for example they would throw their toys out of the pram and be gone in the blink of an eye.

Wrong again Rhodes, nobody banged any tables, the boys just got on with the job in hand. I would suggest you look at Del and Steve's pedigree in non-league football before you make rash judgments. Your 'impression ' must be unfounded as you have never met either of them. I have attached their profiles for you to appraise yourself of their history in the game.

It was Paul Tomkins who upped and left when things weren't going his way. Thinking that a 5-0 defeat was acceptable because they lost 7-0 the week before is a real misnomer, but misplacing your keeper is just careless.

As for the lads he had at the club I think it says it all when only 7 turned up to play at St. Margaretsbury and the game had to be called off. What
