Yes it would appear from the press extract below that Del shares your view however, as I say, the Chairman won't like putting his hand into his pocket and laying out big bucks to improve the playing surface:

Deanus prepares for pitch battle at Herns Lane after Cockfosters win

01 December 2008

WGC manager Del Deanus believes the pitch at Herns Lane is becoming a major obstacle to success.

Speaking after the Citizens' 1-0 win over Cockfosters in the first round of the Herts Senior Cup, Deanus is hoping for major improvements on the playing surface.

"The game against Cockfosters was a battle on a dreadful pitch," said the 34-year-old manager.

"It wasn't an entertaining game at all, and if I'm honest the pitch is becoming a leveller in our matches now.

"If we were playing on a better pitch we would be winning games much easier, and some people just don't realise how bad it actually is out there."

There's an interesting summary of 2008 in the Welwyn & Hatfield Times saying what a turbulent year it has been for the Herns Lane Club, 2009 looks promising as long as Del and Steve don't get itchy feet:

An update on events at Herns Lane from the Welling & Hatfield Times, the Herns Lane faithful must be praying that 'the Deadly Duo' at least see the season out as they certainly seem to know what they're doing:

BarneyRubble - I don't think anybody can disagree with you there, he seems to have the knack of getting the right players for the job at the right time with the limited resources available to him although like I said his demands on the Chairman at Herns Lane will eventually take their toll and I don't think he and Steve will be there for the long term. I hope I'm wrong though as the so called 'Deadly Duo' are certainly a breath of fresh air to the SSML.

What's wrong with Oracle, I expected him to be on by 6.30pm last night shouting about Welwyn Garden City's win yesterday from the roof tops

Just for you:

Welwyn returned to league action today taking a predicted 2-0 win away against bottom club Holmer Green.

Goals from Fabio Valenti and leading marksman Stuart Blackburne secured the Citizens the points at Watchet Lane today.

Valenti opened the scoring in the first half then Blackburne doubled City's lead after the break to bank the Premier Division points for his side.

With Tring beating Biggleswade United 5 - 1 and the Kentish Town v Oxhey jets game postponed Welwyn take 15th place in the league

The re-arranged home fixture with ST MARGARETSBURY, who are currently just one place above us, takes place on Tuesday night but the points difference means we can not overtake them, although we do have two games in hand. We still have to play our away fixture at the Recreation ground against the Hertfordshire side.

We are at home again on Saturday to Tring Athletic who beat the Citizens 3-0 back at the end of August and the boys will be looking to avenge that result.

Rhodent
I think Paul is afraid of heights, anyway we don't need to shout sbout our success, we will just get on with securing a mid table position for WGCFC and building for a future in the Ryman league,I'm sure we will enjoy the journey.

Bilbo - Thanks for confirming who Oracle is, I'm surprised he can show his face.

It's a shame the majority of your posts speak otherwise Bramley.

It would just be nice to hear a bit more of your footy experiences with the ssml and HP. Long gone are the days of your time with Edgware and appreciation of Canvey.

Did you watch a game this weekend?

Bitch - As this is an SSML forum, I would not be rude enough to talk about Hellenic on here.

As for SSML, you are correct in saying that Edgware Town was my last experience of it.

Congrat's on doing your homework especially about Canvey - very impressive LOL!!
