Oracle - I thought there might have been something from yesterday's tournament in the online version of the Welwyn & Hatfield Times but I guess it's too early, I see that Vince Rispoli won Del's player of the year award:

Shame we lost though Oracle although we can be proud as the boys in the Edgware team are all Step 5 and above players so we did very well indeed and we all the rest before us.

Great day out and nice to catch up with some faces from a few years and glad that sum of money was made for the MND association, thats what the day was about after all.

Thanks for that, I'll pass your kind words onto the Club's Chairman Mr Springer. This is the sort of thing the likes of LATO and Spidermanor are missing out on as Tokyngton Manor start to get noticed and raise eyebrows, they turned their backs on the Club following the unfortunate demise of Ruislip Manor and are now regretting that decision.

I see Stuart Blackburne is featured in this weeks Welwyn & Hatfield Times and speaks very highly of Del and Steve:

Management News

Enfield Town FC are delighted to announce that they have secured the services of Steve Newing and Del Deanus as joint managers with immediate effect. Steve and Del have proven experience and success at this level. Following success at Edgware Town, the pair have had spells at Leyton and most recently Welwyn Garden City, where they turned round the club's fortunes with an impressive run of form to go from 2nd bottom to finish 9th overall. The club believe they have what it takes to move things forward at Enfield Town.

The club will also be bringing in former Enfield FC manager George Borg to work with the managers in a coaching capacity. Steve and Del are looking forward to working with George next season. He has a wealth of experience and despite his other work commitments, including coaching in the US, George has a lot to offer.

New manager Steve Newing said, "We are both looking forward to the opportunity to manage what we see as a very progressive club. We have a big challenge ahead to ensure Enfield Town are up there battling for promotion and we are really excited about it. We are also very pleased to have an opportunity to work with someone of George's calibre."

As a player Steve captained Edgware Town and holds the record for most goals scored in a season. He scored 177 goals during his time with the club. As well as Edgware, he had spells with Hendon and Kingsbury Town. He also scored the winning goal in the FA Carlsberg Pub Cup Final in 1998 for West Hendon Ex serviceman’s club, one of three appearances he made at Wembley Stadium in which he also scored a winner against the Danish Carlsberg Pub Cup Winners also in 1998. Steve also represented his country playing for England Schools U19 team.

Del is also an ex England Schoolboy International and was once on the books at Spurs. His non league playing career was cut short by a back injury and he moved into coaching with Southall. Following promotion with Southall, he moved on to Northwood where he enjoyed further success before moving to the White Lion Ground.

George needs no introduction to those of us who followed the now-defunct Enfield FC. He joined Enfield having managed Harrow Borough and also counts Chelmsford City, Chesham United, Braintree Town and Boreham Wood amongst the clubs where he has been in charge. George has a UEFA B coaching badge.

Hi PB! Hope you are well.

This is a great appointment for The Towners - look out for a big improvement in their fortunes next season. Not entirely sure about the GB role though!

All good thanks mate, and yourself?

Yeah will be a decent side next year at ETFC. Have to admit was surprised myself with the GB part, be interesting to watch that develop. Might only be an occasional thing?

I'm good thanks.

Stand by for the onslaught against the dynamic duo from Rhodes!

Horace - I'll wait to see what Oracle and Bilbo have to say for themselves before making any comment on the so called 'Dynamic Duo's' defection to Enfield Town however it's quite an incredible turn of events. No doubt Oracle and Bilbo will immediately drop Welwyn Garden City like a brick as they did with Leyton.

Bilbo - I still don't believe that Del and Steve will be at Herns Lane next season but I'll be happy to be proved wrong.

Looks like Rhodes should have put a bet on this one !!!! As he was right,

There was also a bit in the Welwyn and Hatfield Times on them leaving Herns Lane:-

Denus And Newing Walk Out On Welwyn Garden City

Del Denus and Steve Newing have quit as joint-managers of WGC to take over at Ryman One North Side Enfield Town

Having guided the Citizens to a ninth-place finish in the premier division of the South Midlands League, the dynamic duo have decided to cut their ties with the Herns Lane club

It may come to some as no surprise as Denus and Newing, along with most of the squad at the club, are comfortably capable of testing themselves at a higher level

However, there could be dark days for City, with the majority of the squad expected to follow Denus and Newing to Goldsdown Road

I hope I'm wrong though as the so called 'Deadly Duo' are certainly a breath of fresh air to the SSML.

This is another prediction, made on 9 January, that I'm not proud of however like I've said on a number of occasions Del and Steve are mavericks and wherever I lay my hat merchants, they always will be.

Monkeymonkey8 - When I spoke to Del at the prestigious 6 a Side tournament at Herns Lane last month for his MND Charity he indicated that he would only sever ties with the Club if they didn't put the necessary improvements in place particularly in relation to the playing surface. I think the demands on the Chairman, both from the so called 'Dynamic Duo' and the SSML, were too high and it was inevitable they would throw in the towel sooner rather than later.

Oracle has posted this on the Welwyn Garden City site:

With an uncertain future for the club and the prospect of a second season with no budget either to enhance the playing squad or improve the playing surface at Herns Lane, Del and Steve have, with regret, decided the time has come for them to move on and have accepted a management job at Ryman Division One North club Enfield Town.

Although the officers of the club have worked tirelessly to try to raise finances to improve the facilities at the ground, they have had little success and basically no support from the local community.

Del and Steve have enjoyed their tenure at WGCFC, but they feel that without improvement of the basic facilities and even a small budget they would not be able to keep the excellent squad of players they have attracted to the club and would therefore not be able to take the club any further forward.

I know the Dynamic Duo had ambitions to take WGCFC to the title next season, but the promise of funds to improve the pitch or pay the players has not materialised and given that most of the squad could have played at a higher level for reasonable wages and only stayed at WGCFC because of Del and Steve, who were trying to work with their hands tied behind their backs.

I personally hope they achieve the success they deserve at Enfield Town.

Bilbo - Thanks for posting that, I take it you and Oracle are packing your bags for Goldsdown Road 'as we speak'.

Rhodes, as you know I will follow Mr Deanus until his MND stops him being involved in football. As for Paul, I believe he told you that he is leaving the country at the end of the year and had already informed WGCFC that he would not be involved next season. However, as he is a personal friend of both Steve and Del as well as many of the squad that played at Edgware Town I am sure we will see him pre-season at Enfield Town?

Bilbo - I made the above post on 27 November shortly after Del and Steve arrived at Herns Lane, I think you and Oracle are becoming just a little bit predictable don't you.
