Some thoughts about the Billericay game

We started poorly and (although it was end to end) they always looked more likely to convert.

 

The first goal was a high ball into the middle of the box about 8 yards out. Several players went for it (but not the keeper), and Smith got the touch. I thought at first it was an OG to be honest.

 

Second goal was a deflected shot from the edge of the area, low and hard into the bottom corner.

 

Then a classy goal from Peters. He kept his head when put through, beat a player and fired it under the goalie.

 

Billericay netted again before half time, but luckily for us the lino managed to see an offside that nobody else had spotted.

 

The half time pep talk must have done some good, because we came out all fired up, players encouraging each other and so on.

 

Stubbs had a rocket shot from distance pushed round the post, and was on hand at the near post to nod in the resulting corner for the equaliser. He looked well chuffed, and so he might.

 

Their winner was a brilliant individual goal by Billy Bricknell, beating several players and giving the keeper no chance.

 

Scott made two wonder saves to keep us in with a shout, and we almost pulled level again when Quain hit the post from close range.

 

We threw on an extra forward towards the end, but although we went close it wasn

I agree, quite a few positives from the game. We found the net twice deservedly leveling just after half time(should have been 3 but Aaron, from 2 yards out & with the keeper beaten, tried to power the ball in (rather than place it) but hit the post - with 2 minutes left... that would have been a morale boosting draw.

 

Looking at the table, we are now 4 points adrift of the next few teams above us, so have to start accumulating points soon, or be stuck in the bottom 5 with 4 going down.

Am still trying to work out how Aaron managed to hit the post instead of the net from where he was. A real shame because IMO we deserved a draw.
