Four Levels Of Football!!

Recommended Posts

Which clubs, in the 20 years since the 1982/83 season, have spent time in each of the Top 4 levels of Football League??

I reckon certainly the following five...

Wolves

Level 1: Old Division One in 1983/84 season

Level 4: 3 successive relegations in the mid-80's. Think they won 4th Division championship in 1988

Brighton & Hove Albion

Level 1: Were 1st division in 1983 when they lost the FA Cup Final

Level 4: Just two season ago they were in the 3rd Division

Swansea City

Level 1: Were 1st Division in 1983

Level 2: Almost as dramatic a drop as Wolves. Currently in the 3rd division

Oxford United

Level 1: Three seasons in the mid-80's, including a League Cup win in 1986

Level 4: Where they currently reside

Fulham

Level 1: Next season will be their third in the Premiership

Level 4: Spent the mid-90's in Division 3.

I'm also thinking possibly Sheffield United and Wimbledon (were they both division 4 in 1982/83?) and maybe Swindon Town??

Can anyone else think of any others?? - last 20 years only!!

I think Wimbledon were already in the old 2nd divison 20yrs ago - They went straight up from Div4, then down then floated for a couple then 2 straight promotions took them to Div 2, a couple of years later and they were top flight.

I'm taking this from memory, I may be wrong!

I reacon Swindon may of been in all 4, the've been in 3 since 1994.

Swansea almost made it 5 divisons, didn't they also go from 1st - 4th in consective seasons!

Cambridge United have had some amazing bolts up and down the table as well, on the way down from the old 2nd to the 4th they only won about 10 games in 2 seasons in the mid 80's but almost got promoted in the premiership in it's first season!
