A good comment in the sun today , Why waste Licence fee money on over paying these two pillocks, Why not put the Licence fee money to bringing back classic sitcoms such as Porridge,Only Fools & Horses ,Open All Hours and of course Blackadder , Or Invent some new ones .

I'm just about old enough to remember Bootsie & Snudge but my all time favourite was Til Death us do part . This is where the Licence fee money should go instead of hiring abusive foulmouthed idiots .

BladeRunner - A great post but I'll just pick you up on one pont if I may, there is nobody in this Country capable of inventing new comedies, the days of The Likely Lads, Are You Being Served, Dad's Army, Rising Damp, Steptoe & Son, On The Buses and the ones you mentioned are long gone.

(For once)I agree with you Rhodesy! Trouble is, those were funny series because of their humour. Today they are only fummy(to some people)if they use the "F" word as often as they can!

If the BBC was to bring back all these old shows "the usual suspects" would complain that they had nothing new on TV...The BBC can never win, trying to keep everyone happy...it should just concentrate on quality and orignal shows and sport and leave the popular programmes to ITV

Well that's certainly a first however anyone in their right mind can see that there is nobody capable of penning classic comedy these days, we haven't even touched on Morecambe & Wise, The Two Ronnies, Bruce Forsyth, Jimmy Tarbuck and Bob Monkhouse to name a few, comedians who never used the 'F' Work in their lives let alone their careers.

Generally I agree. There is far too much swaring in the name of 'humour' and far too little actual humour. The only exceptions I can think of recently are 'Green Wing' and 'The IT Crowd' both of which are very funny without constant swearing. Most other so-called comedies just aren't.

Worryingly, though, these comments do remind me of the comments my parents made about Monty Python. Am I becoming a grumpy old man?

Strangely I was never a big fan of Monty Python or John Cleese for that matter, I cracked a smile but that's as far as it went

Who remembers Steptoe ,It aint arf hot mum , On the busses , The Rag trade , The Good Life , 2.4 children (sadly one of the last good ones)

I can't accept that the BBC cant find suitable people to write new sitcoms ,I'm afraid the BBC seems to have lost the plot with what the public want to see . Ross and Brand have pushed the boat out too far , If they are to perform again then whoever employs them should fine them each time they use expletives and make sure this clause in written into their contracts.

The problem is that PC-ness has gone too far, so certain juvenile, (and I use the word loosely), presenters decide to push the bounds.

I'm a million miles from being a prude, but if some up-start made sexually explicit comments on the BBC about any of my three grand-daughters, I would expect far more than just their heads to roll.

Classic comedies that NEVER pushed the bounds too far.

Dad's Army.

'Allo 'Allo, (though slightly risque}.

The Good Life.

Last of the Summer Wine.

Ever Decreasing Circles.

To The Manor Born.

Butterflies.

(the list is almost endless.)

Have to disagree with you on Last of the Summer Wine. The early series were superb, but for a good few years it has been absolute rubbish in my opinion.

Currently, My Family has its moments, but is past its sell-by date. After Your Gone showed promise, but rapidly went the same way. There are a few sitcoms on more obscure channels, but they don't have the mass appeal to make it to BBC1 or ITV1.

I think the answer is to use people other than Fred Barron.

She was a bit special.

Also Diane Keen in the 'Cuckoo's Nest'.

Ahhh Felicity Kendal. Very special.
