Performance against MUFC

I came away last night happier than after the last 2 matches BUT we still lost.

So what cheered me up well:

1) We seemed to be playing on the ground for a change and it was not the big desperate hoof out of defence.

2) Luke & Ryan (as mentioned elsewhere) both made faultless debuts and showed that we do have some good players in the reserves.

3) The subsitons that were made were positive and not negative.

4) I felt that we actually looked as if we were going to score.

However now for the negatives:

1) We did not score again.

2) Why are we having an injury crisis.

3) We lost and are in dire trouble now.

Billericay is a big match on Saturday. If we lose that one we will be 7 points behind them and played one game more and looking very precarious. I know its early, but when you get in a position where you need to win three matches just to stand still , times start to get very tough.

Personally, i thought the substitutions were ridiculous.

In fairness, they may have been injured, but otherwise, i thought pointless.

It seemed to me that TY had given up on the game (arguably rightly) and was just seeing how the fringe players faired.

To me ,you do not give up with 30 mins left .Ok we did not look like winning, but it only needs a bit of luck-then its 2-1 then you have a real go and get a equaliser.

TY speaks of experience-but Power was giving some experience and class-and in a week when we are being frank-Coleman has shown he is not anything like Ryman standard-found out by BA - so why bring him on for Power.

Until the substituions-we were at least having 40% of the game.

After the substitutions-we had about 20% of the game.

I am afraid to say, that Axon similarly is way below Gregory's standard.

Morris for Stubbs-worked alrightish-Stubbs did not have one of his better games imo.

Thus, i wish TY well-but the one thing i do think he made major mistakes in his substitutions(unless they were for injuries )

We still seem to be playing the game at 100mph, instead of stopping the ball, controlling the game and passing with confidence, as Smithy used to. I think we all agree when he played (overweight and a yard off pace) he still controlled the midfield and hence the game. The lads all show their willingness to run themselves into the ground, but maybe they should slow down and take stock of where they are on the pitch and who is near them and also the pass they need to make for a build up attack (BTW only my opinion - they all deserve a medal for a gutsy performance.

Couldnt see us ever scoring personally, Power was again very disappointing and just does not look good enough, the rest worked hard but were to be frank outclassed by a very good Maidstone side, built with experience and younger players, always works at this level, at the moment we have good young players but no experience, sorry to say it but before the season began I questioned how players good enough only for the reserves last season are all of a sudden Ryman class.

I will be the first to admit defeat and hope against hope that I am proved wrong .

Funny how we see it different.

i thought power showed great class and technique.

What exactly do you expect from the guy-he would probably be the first to admit he's not Rooney,Ronaldo and Torres rolled into one.

Could it be that expectations are a bit high.

Has he or indeed BA ever said he is a 20 goal striker.

he does what he's good at fairly well imo-holds the ball up and feeds others.

Did you catch his great precise header back into path of either Wilson or stubbs last night

So if he isn't, why is he there - don't we need goals from our centre forward?

As a cheeky aside....doesn't sound too precise, MM! (I shan't use a cheeky smiley!)
