Have you noticed that all musicians these days are well educated, middle-class, ex-university students? You can tell just from the experimental nature of these bands music. Are Oasis the last example of working-class dossers turned superstars? And no, The Streets don't count!

Your opinions?

Does it really matter? So long as the music's good, what dpes it matter what class they are or where they were educated? And aren't you doing the 'working class' down by saying that you can tell that these bands are middle class just because their music is experimental, like working class people wouldn't be intelligent enough to do this sort of thing. Sorry if this sounds a bit hostile but I hate it when people bring class into music!!!

BANDS THAT ARE EXPERIMENTAL BUT ALSO SO-CALLED WORKING CLASS(so far as I know!):

Miss Dynamite

Sugababes (to an extent- that Gary Newman sample was class!)

Nightmares on Wax

The Libertines

Yeah Yeah Yeahs

The Coral (not sure if they qualify as working class, I don't know much about them)

I could go on, but I won't.

Just concerned that music was moving away from it's roots(with the obvious exception of rap music), and becoming sterile. I've always thought the best records are written in anger,or in difficult circumstances- and once those self-same artists get rich, the hunger is lost and the edge that those artists had diminishes. I could give many examples of what I'm talking about, but I know you're bright enough to ignore it...

I reckon you're just angry cause I dissed the Yeah Yeah Yeahs earllier!

The problem with middle class people are that they are just so [****!!****] annoying.

When you go out and meet people, if they are a 100% twat you can bet your bottom dollar they are middle class, I prefere meeting down to earth people.

BTW The Streets do count - working class brummie lad with relevent outlook on the streets (no pun intended)

MKJames-I read that post about the Yeah Yeah Yeah's AFTER I'd done that post

Zeal- The Streets has a slight 'cockney' accent due to the fact he's been living in London for 6 years.

EFMTFTV- I don't think it's fair to generalise 'middle class' people like that, most of my friends are m/c, and so am I and we're a nice bunch really! Also, rather then reinforcing class stereotypes wouldn't it be better to do away with those assumptions and just take people as they are?

No, I wouldn't say we live in a classless society, but I would like us to! The whole concept of class and the notion that one belongs to a certain class only restricts people and therefore society. Class only serves to restrict progress and defend the interests of those 'at the top'. That's what I think anyway

I think we'd all like to but human nature suggests otherwise, I have to admit that was a double-edged question but no-one picked up on it...!

Enough negativity- I'm smiling on all of you with my brotherly love...

I realised after I posted ithe first one yesterday that I was talking b***cks, just everyone was talking about Coldplay, I'm neither here nor there with them...just they made me think of the stereotypical indie band and it got me thinking where will the new Rage Against The Machine come from- coz it certainly won't be Coldplay or Mogwai!

Quote:
class is a pointless concept...all the matters is how much cash you can lay your hands on.. if you aint in the 40 per cent brackett and you havnt got minted parents you are working class, right?

If you work you are working class. If you dont work you are:
1) Dole queue scrounger with a dog on a string.
2) A student.
3) Some over priviliged gonk, with no chin called Tarquin.
