The album got 4/10 in the NME - bastards!

I would imagine the second disk (b-sides and rarities) probably let it down, as the 'Singles' disk is faultless!

It was the singles bit they seems to be slating. They said Joe through to Move were classics but everything after "Bigger Mountain" was rubbish.

Post-Biggest Mountain they had "Caravan", "Dragging Me Down", "Two Worlds Collide" and "Generations" to name but four. Mind you, I've never been keen on anything from "Devil Hopping", including "Saturn 5".

Does anyone on here actually like it, I buy it for infomation like gig dates and release dates but apart from that it f*ucks me off big time!

I look at NME.com occasionally for the latest news, but never buy it. Q Magazine and MOJO does me.

I've got Science and Nature, and I think one other but I'm not sure.

 

Autophiliac or How I Learned To Stop Worrying and Love My Car, and Slack Jaw are my two favourites. Are all their albums similar, or did they go into an experimentation phase?

The early Bluetones singles ("Are You Blue Or Are You Blind", "Bluetonic" and "Slight Return") are the best.

Slight Return is quality.

Same as you- I buy it to find out what new LP's are being released etc. Don't bother reading about new bands 'cause I know they won't be as good as they make out, i.e The Libertines, Yeah yeah Yeahs etc.

In the last 2 issues they've slated Inspiral Carpets, Bluetones and Shed 7 and the only reason seems to be that they are old.

Problem is music is all about opinions and everyone differs, but NME is like a child with attention defecit they only like bands for 5 minutes, then they're just so nineties!!

 

I've gone back to Q, which isn't perfect but it is a bit more consistent than NME.

Q was a top magazine a couple of years back, but they changed the format slightly recently, and I don't enjoy it so much.

 

That and MOJO are about the best of a bad bunch though, I've found.

I don't mind Uncut occasionally, they had a great special edition on The Beatles last year and once in a while it's worth getting.

 

The Q Led Zeppelin special was a good collector's purchase. Though as you say CZ, they're not quite there, sometimes they spread themselves accross all genres making it kind of a jack of all trades, master of none.
