The Nearly Team

We are a team that nearly keep winning. With 2 exceptions we could have won every game this season. With a bit more inspiration we could turn a close match into a draw or win.Every week we say we should have won that match, but we cannot keep saying that,we have to start turning results around.

Last season I thought Ryan Martin was one of our best players and was sorry to see him go.If he cant find a club how good would our team look with Martin on the left and Peters on the right. That would give us a great attacking combination on the flanks and might make a difference. It would be good to find a striker like Pinno but they are like gold dust and I dont know any who are available or affordable.

If we need to free up funds the question is whether Butcher is staying or not and is Parkinson staying. If Butcher goes then I would say go for Martin.Although Parkinson is playing very well at centre back we could consider bringing Robinson in and using the P/son money towards getting Martin back.

Its not easy but has anyone got any other ideas.

I always believe when strengthening you go down the 'spine of the team'

Goalkeeper, central defence,central midfield, striker.

These wide players-no matter how good- drift in and out of games; but down the spine ,you are always involved;so if strengthening-focus on the centre first.

Is it realistic/feasible for BA to strengthen the squad after 2 cup exits-doubtful i would think ?

In my opinion we are playing too narrow. Makes us predictable, plus easier to defend against. Yesterday I was wondering why Power was always wandering about on the wing, he should have been in the box waiting for a cross.

Mind you, that presupposes we have the wingers to deliver them. But if we were to use the whole width of the pitch it would help stretch the defence. Oh for Jimmy yesterday.

We also need an end product. Lots of very good football yesterday only to fall down in the last third. Take a shot, someone!

Second half was simply not good enough yesterday; in fact, apart from a 20-25 minute spell in the first half, that wasn't good enough either.

Scott had one thing to do all game, and he managed to screw it up and, ultimately, the blame has to fall on him. His strength is supposed to be shot-stopping but to let the ball slip under you is criminal. Still, the defence were solid enough to prevent Hendon creating hardly anything.

Created enough chances in that spell in the first half to win the game but there are only so many times you can turn round and say 'well, we should have won that game'. Despite being a fan of Pratt, his confidence is clearly shot to pieces; he never stops running and can pose real problems to the opposition defence, but he does need to start taking the chances that come his way. Power, on the other hand, was shocking yesterday. For a so-called striker, he seems so reluctant to get in the box! And even when he does, he tries too many tricks and flicks and, ultimately, often is disposessed.

When Smudger came off at half-time, we just fell to pieces. Morris, again, just runs around, chasing shadows, having absolutely no effect on the game. And as mentioned in another thread, Quain is useless. I'm sure this will be met by plenty of comments of "Oh, you can't criticise a player blah blah blah" but, if they want to look on here, then they know there's a risk of them being slated. If some of the players in question were to buck their ideas up and actually put the work in on the pitch, they wouldn't have to worry about any form of criticism.

Overall, poor result, especially this season when we really do need the prize money. Some of those players need to take a look at themselves and some of them need a kick up the backside.

I wasn't there, but seem to remember on Wellsie's commentary that Parkinson did get booked(remember thinking that, just back from suspension, he's opened his 'tab' again).

Perhaps he (Wellsie) can confirm that for you.

Parkinson & Haule both got booked for handbags & pushing in penalty area whilst waiting for a free kick to take place. Suprised Wellsie did not see it as it was right infront of him.

Must say apart from the penalty decision I thought the ref had a good game was not at all card happy and with some reluctance sent BA off. You could see that he did not want to do it and gave him plenty of time to walk away from it.

Couldn't agree more. I spend enough time slating the diabolical standard of officialdom at this level, so in the interests of fairness, I will state for the record that the ref was the best I can remember at HDP, although did get the penalty decision wrong.

The linesman at the bar end ha a shocker, though
